AJ Sherrill Obituary

SMSgt. AJ Sherrill, USAF (Ret.)
February 13, 1933 - May 27, 2021
Bonaire, Georgia - Early on the morning of Thursday, May 27, 2021, AJ Sherrill, 88, passed away peacefully at his residence.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Mr. Sherrill was born on February 13, 1933. He was the son of the late Jack Dillard Sherrill and Delia E. Hall Sherrill. Raised in the Western Carolina region, Mr. Sherrill graduated from Candler High School. As a young adult, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he honorably served in Personnel for 20 years and retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant in 1971. Stationed in Newfoundland, Canada, he met the love of his life, Florence Laura Sherrill; they were married on November 20, 1954, at St. John's Air Force Base. He was also stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico; California; Hawaii; Michigan; and in Warner Robins, Georgia. During his time in the armed forces, Mr. Sherrill was privileged to have been part of a recovery team that recovered a space capsule while in Hawaii. Coinciding his time in the military, Mr. Sherrill worked tirelessly for Sears and retired as the Division Manager in Warner Robins.
In 1963, Mr. Sherrill became a longtime dedicated member of Central Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon, taught Fourth Grade Sunday school, was part of the For His Glory Sunday school class; and served on several committees. Mr. Sherrill and his wife each year enjoyed spending time in Newfoundland with family and friends.
In addition to Mr. Sherrill's parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Florence Laura Vardy Sherrill; son, Randy Sherrill; as well as four brothers.
His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Don Sherrill (Jean) of Dacula; Janice Odom (Robert) of Marietta; Kathy Vargas (Jeff) of Bonaire; grandchildren, Kristy Baughier, Brooks Keisler (Bethany), Rob Odom, Melissa Odom (Seth Plants), Ashley Odom, Nicholas Sherrill, Rachel Sherrill, Krystal Sherrill, and Shane Sherrill; as well as eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation with Mr. Sherrill's family will be Tuesday, June 1, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church. The funeral service celebrating his life will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with full Military Honors. Following the service, Mr. Sherrill will be laid to rest next to his wife in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
