Butler Brown Obituary

Butler Malloy Brown
December 17, 1937 - May 6, 2020
Hawkinsville, Ga.- Butler Brown was born in Vienna, Georgia in 1937 and spent most of his life in Hawkinsville. As a self-taught landscape painter, he achieved international recognition for his artwork. His accomplishments have resulted in articles in Who's Who in America, Art News, Newsweek, People Magazine, The New York Times, The Washington Post, American Artist, and many other publications. He designed the fine art print for the Macon, Georgia International Cherry Blossom Festival in both 1992 and 1998. Butler shared his artistic skills by teaching many aspiring artists in one-on-one painting sessions.
Butler's original paintings were displayed in the White House, and are in the collections of former President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter, the founder of Capricorn Records Phil Walden, the President of YKK in Tokyo, members of the Allman Brothers Band, and in private and corporate collections in Germany, Great Britain, Canada, Japan, and throughout the United States.
Butler was a huge fan of music and cinema. One of his grandson Cameron's favorite memories was watching "The Wizard of Oz" while a small child on the lap of his grandfather.
Throughout the years, Butler's donations of his paintings for auctions have benefitted organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Native American orphanages, and local animal shelters.
Due to current government restrictions a private graveside service will be held at 2pm on Friday, May 8, 2020 at Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens. He was preceded in death by his father Bunk David Brown, and his mother Mary Magdalene Brown, and his sister Juanita Reed. His beloved wife of 47 years, Laverne, preceded him in death in April 2006. He is survived by his brother Archie Brown (Susan), daughter Julie Poplin (Bill), son Tony Brown (Penne), grandson Cameron Brown, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Clark Funeral Home of Hawkinsville, Ga. is in charge of the arrangements.
