Rebecca Young Obituary

Rebecca Sue Young
December 30, 1961 - February 21, 2021
Macon, Georgia -
Rebecca "Becky" Young died at age 59 on 1st Lent, Sunday, February 21, 2021, in a home fire. Her life will be celebrated at St. Francis Episcopal Church when it reopens for services following Covid-19 pandemic restrictions. Her ashes will be interred in a private ceremony beforehand.
Becky was a graduate of Mt. De Sales High School and of Mercer University with a B.A. in Philosophy and Spanish. She worked as a paralegal title-abstractor for several years before disability overwhelmed her. Becky's life was beset with ups and downs as she battled with episodes of mental illness and addiction. Her family cared for and loved her through these times. The A.A. community of Macon supported and sustained her over many years for which we are sincerely grateful. "When she was good, she was very, very, good." She gave of herself unstintingly and found joy in the fullness of life, in spite of personal misfortune.
Becky was preceded in death by her father, U.S. Army Captain Luther D. Young III, a highly decorated helicopter pilot in Vietnam. Survivors include: her son, Soren Kane Young of Columbia, SC; mother, Susan Locke and step-father, Russell Locke of Macon, GA; sister, Hillary Kee and husband, Chad Kee of Cumming, GA; brother, Patrick Locke of Savannah, GA. Becky especially loved and delighted in her nieces; Isabella and Olivia Kee and Addison Locke. Survivors also include relatives on her father's side in New Iberia, Louisiana.
It is gratefully suggested that any donations in her memory be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church building fund, 432 Forest Hill Road, Macon, GA 31210.

I was honored to meet Rebecca as a participant in Making Healing Count Court ( Mental Health Court). I am so saddened to hear of her untimely death. She was absolutely delightful and she found joy in the simple things. Even when she stumbled she did so with grace, accountability and a steadfast desire to regroup and move forward positively. It was my sheet pleasure to know her, to have lunch with her and to be a recipient of her works of art. I will cherish the painting always. My deepest condolences to the family.

Locke family,
It’s been an incredibly long time since I have seen you last, all the same my heart just broke for you all when I saw Hillary’s post. So many memories of childhood and Becky being there when I was knocking on the door to play with Hillary or Patrick.

Keeping each of you close to my heart and in my prayers.

I remember Becky from graduate school at GCSU's Macon Center in the early 90s. She was a really sweet person. I hated to see her die so soon. Rest in peace, Becky.

I was also a classmate at MDS. Becky was liked by everyone and seemed to like everyone. Just a sweet person, inside and out. She was also a great cheerleader to watch! As folks have said, she did have a bubbly personality... a little subdued after the high school car accident, but one could see that she was still "in there". I, too, went to Mercer and ran into her a few times there, though Spanish and philosophy were not my circles. At the reunions she attended, she still lit up the room. I'm saddened by her early death... she is missed.

I will never forget the day Becky came to visit me at cosmetology school. I dyed and straightened her hair. There was an event going on at the school and she rode a mechanical bull, and held on for a surprisingly long time!! All the young girls in my class thought she was so cool!
We will miss you Becky! You have a beautiful spirit ❤

Becky was a wonderful person. She had a smile for everyone. She was a hoot , you never knew what was going to come out of her mouth. She is loved and will be missed by many, to include myself. God Bless and Peace to her family and friends.

Often thought of Becky, we graduated together from Mount De Sales. By virtue of our small class size we were all close in our own way. May her family and friends remember her fondly , I know I will.
