MARY AMES Obituary

AUBURN -- Mary Elizabeth Ames, 81, of Litchfield, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, following a long illness, at The Androscoggin Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lewiston July 10, 1931, a daughter of the late Guy and Eva (Lyman) Snyder. She attended Litchfield schools. On Oct. 8, 1949, she married the love of her life, Elmer R. Ames, to whom she was happily married to for 63 years.

She worked as a cashier at Harriman & Black in Gardiner, waitress at Howard Johnson (at Mile 95), Gray's Store at Litchfield Corner and Bourque's Market in Lewiston for more than 20 years until she retired. She enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all of her family. She loved playing cards, doing puzzles, word searches, crocheting and knitting for her family, tending to her flowers and just sitting on her deck. Listening to music, camping, snowmobiling and going out with the girls (her lifelong friends) brought her a great deal of love and enjoyment.

Mary is survived by her husband, Elmer; daughter Alicia (Ames) Johnson and husband Barry of Wales; son Douglas Ames and wife Mae of Litchfield; grandchildren Shawn and Michelle of Paris, Mike and Donna of West Gardiner, Sarah and Jason of Litchfield, Danielle of Litchfield, and Brad and Elizabeth Danse of Virginia Beach; great-grandchildren Rebecca, Michael and Arianna Johnson, Jeremie and Brooklynn Cote, Bailey, Taylor and Carter Danse, and Aryn and Sarah Ledet; three sisters, Dorothy Sherman, Jean and Roxy Perry, and Marjorie Ellis; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Raymond and Glenn Snyder.

Alicia and Doug, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Our mothers and Florris were such good friends for so many years. I remember their coffee clatches on warm summer days sitting in their kitchens in Litchfield while they chatted about this and that. My prayers are with you and your Dad.

Some of my memories of Mary....the times she walked part of the way home with me during our high school years. Overnight stays at each others homes. Liking the same boy when we were young teenagers. We were good friends for a lot of years. She will be very much missed by her family, myself, and all of her good friends.
