Alphonse Pare Obituary

1918-2014

Alphonse Joseph Paré, 96, a World War II veteran, died August 24, 2014, at home in Wells, ME. Mr. Paré was born June 24, 1918, in Augusta, ME, one of eleven children of Belonie and Clara Paré. Mr. Paré was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister of St Mary's Catholic Church of Wells. He was a graduate of RCA Institutes in New York City and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Paré enlisted in the regular Army in August, 1940; and, was in the Nov. 8, 1942, invasion of North Africa. He served as a radar operator and instructor, as well as a French interpreter in Casablanca, French Morocco. He returned to the U.S.; and, was hospitalized for three months before being reassigned to Fort Jay, New York City. Following his discharge in 1945, he was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as an electronic technician, installing and servicing sonar and radar on submarines, until his retirement in 1973.

Mr. Paré was predeceased by his wife, Edna, and by three sisters and six brothers. He is survived by one brother, Arthur Paré of Augusta, ME; daughters Ruth Stanton of Annandale, VA, and Christine McDermott of West Stockbridge, MA; sons Edmond Paré of Wells, ME, and Richard Paré of Indianapolis, IN; and two grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at St Mary's Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells, followed by a reception at the Church. Interment will be at 12 p.m., on Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt Vernon Rd, Augusta, ME.
