Stanley L. Becker, 84
STANDISH -- Stanley Leonard Becker, 84, of Ossipee Trail West, died on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at his residence.
He was born in Syracuse, N.Y., on June 19, 1929, the son of Martin and Lillian Levine Becker. Stanley attended Syracuse schools and received his Bachelor of Science from New York State College of Forestry. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in Philosophy of General Science. Stanley taught at the University of Hawaii for three years and then taught at Bethany College from 1968-2003.
After retiring he moved to Maine to be near his daughter. It was then that he met his partner, Marilyn Towle with whom he spent 10 happy years.
He was fluent on the computer and was a lifelong learner. Stanley enjoyed classical music and being around family.
Stanley was predeceased by his wife, Saundra Rosenthal Becker in 2001. Besides his wife, he was also predeceased by his brother, Marvin Becker and sisters, Muriel Hammer and Shirley Golden. Survivors include his partner, Marilyn Towle; his daughter Carol and her husband Thom Courtney of Gorham, a son, Jonathan Becker of Israel; a brother Gary and his wife Helene Becker of Florida; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his extended family, Barbara and Bill Caiazzo, George Towle, Anita Bailey, Haydn and his wife Tamarra Towle and Cheryl and her husband Ken Lewis.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m., at the Dolby & Dorr Funeral Chapel, 76 State St., Gorham. Online condolences may be sent to www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com.
