Carol Pavan Obituary

BRUNSWICK - Carol Pavan left this world just as she lived in it - peacefully and surrounded by her loving family. She was 58. Anyone who knows her will remember her beaming smile, which she shared generously.

She was born Carol Anne Ladd on Oct. 1, 1960, in Webster, N.Y. as the fourth of seven children to Patricia (Dealy) Ladd and Norman Bliss Ladd. She had what many would consider to be the classic 1960s-1970s childhood - family vacations in the loaded station wagon, cheerleading, and playing sports.

She attended Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. leaving in 1982 with both a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Distribution and a brand-new boyfriend that would ultimately become her husband of over 35 years. John and Carol were married in 1983.

Carol was immediately hired by Arthur Andersen's consulting division (New York and Boston) and worked on Wall Street and in Bermuda. As she and John grew a family, Carol applied her expertise closer to home and always with the goal of being the best mother she could be. She spent the majority of her later career developing and managing information systems in the Acton, Mass. local and regional school systems.

Carol and John lived in Acton for 30 years where they raised their daughters, Kendall and Tracey. Carol made and kept many long-term friendships from her time there, which she developed through volunteering, pottery, kids' sports and countless hours with friends and their kids in the backyard swimming pool. Her unfortunate cancer diagnosis at age 30 amplified her zest for life. Anyone who knew her believes that she defied the odds due to her positive attitude and commitment to holistic lifestyle. She certainly made the most of her time with us. She is an example of how to turn a negative into a positive.

As early empty-nesters, Carol and John moved to Brunswick, Maine in 2015, eager to make the most of what they anticipated to be a shortening time together. Not surprisingly, Carol quickly surrounded herself with joy through friendships, pottery, Milkweed Farm and yoga. They settled into a peaceful life including Carol becoming "Mimi" to granddaughter Gwen.

Carol is survived by her husband John Pavan of (Brunswick); daughter Kendall St. Laurent, her husband Kevin and their daughter Gwen (Warwick, R.I.), daughter Tracey Pavan and her husband Chris Lord (Rockland, ME); her siblings Chris Ladd (Weston, CT), Norman Ladd (Bloomington, IN), Sue Ladd (Canandaigua, NY), Jim Ladd (Huntington, NY), Betsey Lebow (Westport, CT) and Patty Tyson (San Diego, CA); and a myriad of nieces and nephews.

The family will host a Celebration of Life on Jan. 27, 2019. Please contact [email protected] for details.

Carol was a valued colleague at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School and a dear friend and supporter when I went through breast cancer treatment. One of my best memories of her is a trip to a Red Sox game that she and two other school friends and I enjoyed on a beautiful evening. My deep sympathy to her family. Know that are many of us in whose heart she will remain.

I was so sorry to learn of Carrie's death. She was in my training class at LLBean a few years ago and it was so wonderful to work with her and get to know her. What a shining light she was, with such a beautiful, friendly smile. My condolences to your entire family.
