Lydia Ring
Passed away peacefully at home on February 2, 2004. She was 86. She is survived by her loving husband Gerald of 56 years, her daughter Lydia Daviesson, and son-in-law Carl, grandsons Lars and Eric, and her great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Theresa in 1989.
Born in Poland on August 18th, 1917, Lydia studied music and voice at the Warsaw Conservatory of Music and began her operatic career with the Warsaw Opera Company. She was known as "The Nightingale of Warsaw"; and she sang in Italian, French, German, Russian, Polish and English.
She survived the war and immigrated to the United States in 1946 and continued her career with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City; and after, she and her family moved to Novato in 1953, with the San Francisco Opera Company. When she retired, she became a private voice coach, and a devoted wife and mother. She was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice, a vibrant personality, and a zest for life. She will be sorely missed.
