Darrell L. Bowers

CARDINGTON: Darrell L. Bowers, age 75, of Cardington died Friday evening May 3, 2012 in the Morrow Manor Nursing Center. He was born on May 30, 1937 in Richland Township the son of LeRoy C. and Esther L. ( Landis ) Bowers.

Darrell was a 1955 graduate of Cardington-Lincoln High School and served in the U.S. Army. He had been the Cardington Water Superintendent, worked at Mathews Service Station, and Cardington Home & Auto. For many years he worked for the Pat-Way company before purchasing it and also operated Bowers Repair Service. A gun enthusiast, Darrell had been a member of the Caledonia Gun Club and was avid trap shooter. Darrell had served his community as a 20 year member of the Cardington Volunteer Fire Department. He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church and a former member of the Cardington Rotary Club.

On June 2, 1956 in Columbia City, IN., Darrell married the former Belva Boone and she survives in Cardington; other survivors include three children, Danny and Mary Beth Bowers, L. Lynn Bowers, and Wendy and James Arnold all of Cardington; grandchildren, Michael, Kevin, Jason, David, and Heather; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Lilly, Connor, Jordan, Aiden, Alexis, Scarlett, Brianna, Bryce, and Levi; and sister, Joyce and Doug Grimm of Mt. Gilead.

In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Karmin Bowers and two sisters, Maxine Wilson and Betty Corinne Claytor.

Friends may call Monday May 6, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM. Pastor Gail Angel will officiate and the burial will follow in the Caledonia Cemetery.

Dear Belva & Family,
So very sorry to hear of Darrell's passing. He was always a wonderful person to listen to at cardiac rehab in the mornings in Marion. Enjoyed listening to him keeping everyone up-to-date about Cardington. He will be greatly missed by all.
