William Kummerer Obituary

Dr. William David Kummerer, 57, of 115 Dorchester Lane, Pottstown, Montgomery County, died Aug. 2 in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. He was married to Barbara (Hoskins) Kummerer. He practiced optometry, primarily in Pottstown at the North End Vision Center and Lionsville Eye Associates, for more than 22 years. He also practiced in the Exton, Chester County and surrounding areas for 31 years. He was a 1968 graduate of Bloomsburg University with a degree in chemistry and received a doctorate from Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Born in Pottstown, he was a son of the late William E. Jr. and Thelma (Blair) Kummerer. He was a member of Limerick Chapel, Montgomery County. He was a member of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry Division of Continuing and Post-Graduate Education, Pennsylvania Optometric Association, The National Eye Research Foundation, The American Association of Nutritional Consultants and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry Ocular Therapy for the Optometric Practitioner, and was an Optometric Extension Program Clinical Associate. He was an Eagle Scout. Survivors: Wife; sons, Justin M. of Boston, Mass., Jason D. of Newfoundland, Wayne County; daughters, Valerie Kummerer Huff of Fork Union, Va., Rebecca C. Redding of Pottstown; brothers, Alan C. Sr. of San Antonio, Texas, Kenneth E. Sr. of Pottstown; sister, Kay K. Lane of Newark, Del.; two grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home, 359 King St., Pottstown. Call 7-9 p.m. today. Contributions: William D. Kummerer Memorial Fund, c/o The Hill School, Pottstown.
