Ruth Pook Obituary

Pook, Ruth Ruth Owen Pook, wife of Thomas N. Pook (deceased) and mother of eight passed away peacefully on October 8 in Bethlehem, Pa surrounded by her loving family. She was 92. Born in Lake Forest, Illinois on December 6, 1922, she attended the Chicago Art Institute before marrying Thomas "Peter" Pookin 1942 - just prior to his deployment to the war in Europe. His return stateside witnessed multiple relocations based on his career. She often reminisced that each of her children was born in a different state. Aside from a life filled with nurturing a large family and being the wife of a corporate executive, Ruth found time to continue with her passion for painting and even breeding Great Pyrenees dogs, a true balancing act. Her interest in art began early, at the age of 18, with her first solo show in Lake Forest. Her portraits and landscapes hang in galleries and homes throughout the United States and Canada. A signature mural adorns the walls of the Children's Chapel at the Episcopal Cathedral of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Her most frequent subjects were the beautiful landscapes surrounding her summer home on St. Joseph's Island, Ontario and the farmlands of eastern Pennsylvania. She also was exceptional portrait artist. Throughout it all, her deep and abiding faith in God guided her life every single day. She will be truly missed by her many friends and family. Survivors: include daughters Holly, Elizabeth and Peggy and sons Peter, Ronald, Louis, Matthew and Stewart. In addition to her children she had the joy and pride of witnessing the birth of twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Services: Funeral at Kirkland Village, Saturday ,10/24 at 12:00 noon at Kirkland Village. Reception to follow at Kirkland Village. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to New Bethany Ministries, Bethlehem, PA.

We are thinking of the entire Pook family during this sad time. Aunt Ruth was a beautiful, talented, intelligent, loving, generous woman. Her passing leaves a huge void in all of our lives. Megan, Chris, Kaitlyn, Stephanie, and Leslie Jacobs

Ruth was a true friend and wonderful human being. She made me feel very welcomed in my transition from Buffalo to Bethlehem following the passing of my wife. As I sit here remembering her, I look up from the keyboard to a magnificent winter landscape looking down upon the sofa. Ruth- Rest in Peace! Carl Henzelman Jr.

My sympathy to the whole family. I have fond memories of sitting behind Ruth & Peter at the 10:30 am Sunday worship service. My step-son, Matthew always called Ruth, "the lady with the sticks in her hair".
Sincerely,
Denise Ahlum-Sandy

To all of my great friends, your Mom was another mother to all of us Fleming kids. Our summers at camp, our play houses, sleep overs, garbage soup, hot homemade bread with melted butter, so many memories. Her paintings are legend, and my home is a Pook gallery. Our parents are all together again, playing bridge, our Dads are planning their next big projects, docks, decks, and our Mom's are shaking their heads. Please know that all of our thoughts are with you on this most difficult time. Love and hugs to all, Gillie.

To all the Pooks, I have fond memories of your mother on Wygatt Drive and in Saucon Valley. She made the best Leg of Lamb in the world. I went to a dog show once with her and it was so enlightening and fun! You all were a wonderful part of my childhood in Easton.
I have some copies of the paintings from Ruth in my house and think of her when I look at them.
Fondly,
Lisa Mansback
