Resident of Redwood City
Margaretta Koops, beloved wife and mother, was greeted by her Lord and Savior on the morning of Thursday, June 15, 2017 after a long battle with dementia. She was 89. Margaretta is survived by her husband of 69 years, Dirk, her children, Ansje and Dirk, son in law, Gene, daughter in law, Eileen, and her step granddaughter Gabrielle. Margaretta was born on May 22, 1928 in Solo, Java, Indonesia to Sumpiem and Joseph Van Der Meul. She met her husband Dirk in Surabaya, Indonesia at the age of 19 and they wed on April 23, 1948. Together, the two lived in the Netherlands for four years and eventually immigrated to the United States in 1953. They settled in Redwood City, California. Her deep devotion to the Catholic Church led her to live her life in service. For eighteen years, she mentored and taught hundreds of special needs children at the Los Amigos School in Menlo Park. She was also known for her love of service, spending twenty-six years volunteering at the Saint Anthony's Padua Dining Room in Menlo Park. A rosary in honor of Margaretta will take place at 7:00PM on June 20, 2017 at Redwood Chapel (847 Woodside Road, Redwood City) and a funeral mass and celebration of life will be held at 10:30 AM on June 21, 2017 at St. Pius Church (1100 Woodside Road, Redwood City with interment immediately following at Alta Mesa Cemetery, Palo Alto, California.

My condolences to the Koops' family. A beautiful angel has left us and she lives on in her children. Her beauty has been passed down to Ansje my dear friend since 1978 and her son has her gentle heart as well.
