Amita Dev, aged 61, passed away peacefully at home, after a brief but valiant battle against cancer. Amita was born in Bengaluru, India, and received a Bachelor's degree at Fergusson College as well as a Master's degree from Pune University. She emigrated to the United States in 1979, and earned a second Master's degree at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.
Subsequently, Amita moved to Cupertino, CA with her husband, Narendra, where they raised their three children. She deftly managed the challenging responsibilities of raising a family, caring for her aging parents, and pursuing a career in marketing and technology. Over three decades, she contributed her skills and talents to Hewlett-Packard, Agilent Technologies, Nokia, and Juniper Networks. Her colleagues fondly remember her warmth, laughter, and penchant for getting things done.
Amita was deeply relationship-oriented and worked hard to build connection and community with her family and friends. As a gracious host, she left indelible and enduring memories of "good times" in her community. Amita's annual Diwali party was legendary amongst everyone that knew her.
Amita cared deeply about battered women and contributed time and resources to this cause. In her retirement, she found joy in ceramics and produced countless beautiful pieces. She also relished her new role as a grandmother.
Amita is survived by her husband, three children, two grand-children and her mother.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on Sunday, February 18 from 2-4 pm at the Cupertino Senior Center.
