Robert Dreher Obituary

Robert G. Dreher Former Deputy Sheriff, Robert Dreher was born in New York City, New York, Sept. 9, 1923, and died March 19, 2005 at Palo Alto. Robert grew up in New York, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1940. He was in the first squadron of Lighter-Than-Air (blimps) at Moffet Field and other bases along the Pacific Coast. He was based at Point Mugu NAS during the Korean War. He then started working as a Deputy in the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department, retiring in 1977 after 25 years. He lived in Sunnyvale for 52 years. Robert's favorite activities were gardening, fishing and traveling.

He was the son of Emil and Amalie (Lebrecht) Dreher, both natives of Germany who emigrated to New York in the 1890s. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen, and sons Barry of Windsor, Calif., and Eric and daughter-in-law Dana of Sunnyvale, Calif., and grandsons Brannon of Stanwood, Wash., and Aaron of Arlington, Wash. There are also numerous nieces and grand nephews.

Private services have been held. Donations can be made to the VA Hospice Care Center, 3801 Miranda Ave., Palo Alto, Calif., 94304.
