Judith Lachman died in San Jose, California, after courageously facing many years of debilitating illness. She was a brilliant academic with a passion for music and a strong spirit of generosity and caring. Her family and friends meant the world to her.
Judi was a pioneer as a woman in the fields of mathematics, economics, and law, receiving a M.A. in Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Economics from Michigan State University, and a J.D. in Law from Yale where she was the editor of the Yale Law Journal. Her academic career spanned more than two decades, teaching high school math in India, Economics at Vanderbilt University, Law at the Universities of Michigan and Wisconsin, and completing her career at M.I.T. where she taught Law and Management.
Her musical interests included singing, guitar, and harp as both a participant and an avid supporter. Judi was known as a kind, thoughtful, and generous individual. She loved helping others, especially encouraging them to pursue their educational dreams.
She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. A memorial service will be held on September 30th at 2:00pm, at Saratoga Federated Church, 20390 Park Place, Saratoga, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara County.
