PICAYUNE - PICAYUNE - John Lewis Alverson, age 63, of Picayune, pass away on June 19, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana, after a long battle with Leukemia.

John was born in Amory, Mississippi. He was a graduate of Biloxi High School, class of 1979. John Graduated from the University of Maryland with degrees in psychology and computer science. John was a member of the United States Air Force for 10 years. He was a systems architect and senior airman.

John loved working on cars, racing and football.

The pallbearers for John will be Max Gruich, Luke Gruich, Bradley Alverson, James Alverson, and honorary pallbearer, Charlie Nichols.

John was preceded in death by his parental grandparents, John Lewis Alverson and Jewell Vandiver; his maternal grandparents Earlie and Johnie Irvin; and his father, James E. Alverson. He is survived by his mother Wanda Faye Alverson of Biloxi, MS; his children , Brad Alverson of San Antonio, TX, and James Alverson (Heather) of Austin, TX; his sisters Deborah Kaye Alverson of Latimer, MS, and Lola Ann Gruich (Tommy); his grandchildren, Dahlia Blu Alverson of SanAntonio, TX , and Palmer Alverson of Austin, TX; his nephews, Max Gruich, Charlie Nichols, and Luke Gruich; his niece, Shiann Cannaday; and a host of aunts, uncles and friends.

In Lieu of flowers the family ask to donate to the Fisher House of Keesler Air Force Base, Fisherhouse.org

The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. June 25, 2025, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi with the visitation for family and friends starting at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Avenue, Biloxi.
