SVENSON, Andrew E., Jr. 66, be-loved husband and father, direct marketing professional, entrepre-neur, bible scholar, world traveler, vintage car collector, and sailing enthusiast, died Tuesday, Novem-ber 15, 2005 in Montgomery, Ala-bama, after an extended illness. Mr. Svenson was born January 23, 1939 in Nutley, NJ. His father was a noted author of children's mystery stories including the Hardy Boys, the Happy Hollisters, and the Bob-bsey Twins. A church choir soloist, Mr. Svenson was invited to join the renowned American Boys' Choir. He also sang in numerous glee clubs, played trombone, and helped form ""The Serenaders,"" a swing jazz school band. In high school he developed a passion for collecting and restoring vintage automobiles, eventually working on dozens of cars and trucks over his lifetime. Following graduation from Bloomfield, NJ Senior High School in 1956, he attended Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA and ma-jored in journalism. Mr. Svenson's began his life long career in pub-lishing as a reporter for the Bethle-hem, PA Globe-Times. In his first year with the newspaper, the 21-year-old cub reporter launched an investigation that led to the convic-tion of an elected official on crimi-nal charges for a shooting and po-lice cover-up. Desiring to further his career in publishing, in 1961 he be-came Mail Order Manager for Dou-bleday & Company based in New York. Over the course of his 40 year career, Mr. Svenson held senior marketing positions with Cornell University Press (Ithaca, NY); Weekly Reader Children's Book Club (Mi-ddletown, CT); Meredith Corpora-tion (New York, NY and Des Moines, IA); and Fuller & Dees Marketing Group (Montgomery, AL). In 1978, Mr. Svenson launched a consulting business - Andrew Svenson Compa-ny, Inc. - based out of Sarasota, FL. Dozens of major book and maga-zine publishers in North America and Europe enlisted Mr. Svenson's expertise for mail order and book club consultation, strategic plan-ning, and new business develop-ment. In addition to his consulting work, he also owned Things of Sci-ence - a monthly membership club offering scientific experiment kits to budding 10 to 16-year-old science enthusiasts. Most recently, Mr. Sven-son was Development Director for the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, AL. He was involved in fundraising and membership de-velopment for Christian ministries and other nonprofit organizations, as well as in retail and direct mar-keting for Christian publishers such as Thomas Nelson Publishers, the Christian Herald Association, and Visions of Faith. An adventurer at heart, Mr. Svenson's travels took him to exotic locales such as Peru, Panama, Costa Rica, Germany, France, England, and Italy. His love for sailing culminated in a two week excursion on a 27-foot sail-boat through the Abacos Islands in the Grand Bahamas. A member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Mont-gomery, AL, Mr. Svenson actively participated in the Robert Strong Bi-ble class and the Monday Men's Bi-ble Study group. He was a member of the Players Club of New York; the New York Athletic Club, the Direct Marketing Association, Sarasota (FL) Sailing Squadron, and charter board member and Marketing Di-rector for the Key Chorale of Sara-sota, FL. Mr. Svenson is preceded in death by his father Andrew E. Svenson, Sr. and mother, Marian. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joy Jeannine Svenson; seven proud children from two previous marriages, An-drew E. Svenson, III of Tarpon Springs, FL., Jon S. Svenson of Ash-burn, VA., Eric W. Svenson of Cincin-nati, OH., Adam M. Svenson of Seat-tle, WA., Amanda K. Roylance of Boston, MA., Michael A. Svenson of Charlotte, NC., David C. Svenson of St. Augustine, FL.; stepsons, Brett Blowers of Montgomery, AL., R. Mat-thew Walls of Bradenton, FL; a brother, Eric R. Svenson of Char-lotte, NC.; four sisters, Laura S. Schnell of Cape Coral, FL., Jane S. Kossmann of Scituate, MA., Eileen S. de Zayas of Miramar, FL., Ingrid S. Herdman of Monroe NC; seven grandchildren, Ross C. Svenson, Elizabeth C. Svenson, Kara C. Sven-son, Luke A. Svenson, Berit A. Sven-son, Clara G. Svenson, Marc W. Svenson; three step grandchildren, Justin T. Blowers, Zachary W. Blow-ers, D. Lucas Blowers; six cousins; and eleven nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Fri-day, November 18, at 2:00P.M. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1728 South Hull Street, Montgomery, AL. The family will receive visitors at the church at 1:00P.M., one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be at Alabama Heritage Cemetery in Montgomery, AL. The Reverend Claude E.
