Charles Wahl Obituary

Charles T. "Bud" Wahl of Ambler, PA passed away on August 9, 2014 peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was 78 years old. Born in Philadelphia on April 10, 1936 son of the late Josephine (nee Muller) and Charles Wahl. Husband of Mary Jane (nee Leaming) for 55 years. He graduated from Holy Angels Catholic School in West Oak Lane (1950), Northeast Catholic for Boys (1954), La Salle College (1958) and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking. He was married in 1959 and moved with his wife Mary Jane to Wertheim am Main, Germany for three years to serve in the United States Army as a second lieutenant and then a captain in the Artillery Division; subsequently, he was a member of the Army Reserves. He was an enthusiastic employee of First Pennsylvania Bank where he worked for 30 years. He then worked for Chemical Bank in Ocean City, NJ and Ambler Savings Bank. He was the Mayor of Ambler for 12 years and treasured the town that he lived in since 1967 with his wife Mary Jane. For 47 years he was a loyal member of St. Anthony of Padua parish in Ambler. He was the first Chairman of the Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund, on the board of the Southeastern Pennsylvania chapter of the American Red Cross and the Board of Overseers for Temple Ambler campus and an active member of the Ambler Car Show Committee. Bud was preceded in death by his parents (Charles and Josephine Wahl) his sister Marian Craven, and daughter Jennifer. Bud is survived by his wife of 55 years Mary Jane (nee Leaming); children Elizabeth Kunzier (John), Jonathan, Mary Kathryn, Kristina Glanzmann (James); grandchildren Jen, Kate, Jack, Claire, Libby, Will and Brendan; and, his sister Claire Angus (James) of North Wales. Bud loved spending time with his fun-loving family. He was an active member of his parish and walked to daily mass for 39 years. As an adult, Bud enjoyed riding his bike in the early morning on the boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ and had fond memories of summers growing up there. Bud enjoyed fixing things and tinkering on his homes in Ambler and Ocean City. He was a man who had compassion for all people and concern for his local and global communities. Ahead of his time, he was an early proponent of shopping locally, recycling and fuel conservation. An avid volunteer for numerous nonprofit organizations, he lived by example. He was a man filled with faith and grace-and his generosity was boundless. His kindness touched many people and he will be terribly missed. Friends and relatives are invited to attend the funeral mass at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 14 at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Ambler. They are invited to a viewing on Wednesday, August 13 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua and on Thursday morning from 9-11. A private burial will be held at Holy Sepluchre. Memorials can be sent to The Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund 580 Virginia Drive, Suite 110, Fort Washington, PA 19034. Arr. By Shaeff-Myers Funeral Home.
