Griffith, Dan 06/06/1959 ~ 07/23/2014 BONITA -- Dan Edward Griffith June 6, 1959 to July 23, 2014. Dan was born in Indianapolis, IN to Louis and Jerry (Hamm) Griffith, the youngest of three children. He attended Point Loma High School and most recently worked for MWR. Dan was larger than life, one-of-a-kind. He enjoyed exuberant story-telling and performing in many Vanguard Theater productions. Dan was known by all who loved him as a child at heart, a comedian and, most importantly, a wonderful husband, son, brother, stepfather and uncle. He is survived by his wife Tracy, his father Louis Griffith, his mother Jerry Griffith, his sisters Diane and Kathy and their families, stepchildren Mandy and Dustin and many more loving friends and family. Viewing is July 31 from 5:30-9 p.m. at Glen Abbey's Little Chapel of Roses, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita. Memorial service is August 1 at 2 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3598 Talbot Street, San Diego. Please wear bright colors in celebration of Dan's life.

Went to school with Dan. He was always so nice and liked by everyone! I was so sad to see his obituary, and just want anyone who had never had the pleasure of meeting him, that he was a charmer!

I feel like I've been punched in the gut since I saw your name in the PLHS alumni newsletter. I think of all of the fun times we've had together. All of the kids hanging-out on Liggett Drive, the trip to Oregon with my parents, frying up chicken hearts after school and of course all of the skateboarding and biking we did (Nobody could hang on to a wheelie longer than you!). I've driven by the Liggett house many times over the years hoping I might run in to you – sadly now, I never did. I'm sorry I was on vacation when you past and I missed being at your memorial. As sad as I am about this I can't imagine how your family feels. I will pray for them. God bless you. Thanks for all of the great memories. I will miss you buddy!

I first met Dan in high school when he dated one of my best friends - Ann Bouchard. Dan always let me be the third wheel on their dates! He was funny, generous and a great guy who had a sense of adventure. So sad he left this world so young and I'm sorry I missed his service. My prayers to his family and friends. RIP Dan.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Dan's family. This is shocking news and I'm sorry that we didn't know about his funeral services. Dan was a good friend of both my husband and I during our high school years. John worked with Dan at Wendy's. I was fortunate to become friends with Dan back at Dana Junior High School in the early 70's. I remember Dan writing and directing us in a movie for our English class, we had a blast. Fond memories of Dan from PLHS graduation days. Back in the late 70's/early 80's Halloween, Dan dressed up as Steve Martin, white suit, arrow and all. So much fun. My sympathy to his family for this great loss.

So Sad to here about Dan's Passing. I often think about Dan, and the Endless Summers with Our Group at The Beach, Body Surfing, Hodad's rolled tacos, Birdwell Board Shorts. I think Dan invented The Beach Cruzer Bike. He was the first one I know that put Ape Hanger Bars on a 10 Speed Bicycle, then we all had to do the same. I'm so sorry I was unable to attend viewing and funeral. I have been very ill and bedridden until this afternoon. Since liver transplant in 05 i have experienced chills, high fever and it takes a few days to recover. I do have medication for this condition. Just never know when it happen.Iwill never forget Dan.He was one of a kind.

Being part of the Griffith family back in Indiana, we didn't see Dan often. But when we did, he always had the family laughing and remembering some crazy, fun story from the past or putting a spin on something that only Dan could do. We are all very saddened by this sudden loss and have everyone out there in our thoughts and prayers. (BTW, Dan, do me a favor and give your Uncle Henry a hug from me.)

Dan was a survivor who kept on moving no matter what. And he kept everyone entertained all the while. I met Dan at Orange Ave Albertsons in CV many years ago. He was the life of the store, along with Cardwell and Mike K. Always almost in trouble but laughing his way out of it. Bigger than life.....that was Dan. He made work tolerable for many of us. I only new dan for about three years but he made me feel like we where childhood friends. He knew how to liven up a room like nobody else. He could put a smile on your face no matter how angry or upset you where. He was truly a gift gonna miss you lots bud, see you on the other side.
