LAZARE, Wallace 1931-2017 Joseph Wallace Thaiaiake "Sonny" Lazare, age 86, of Kahnawake, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. Wallace was born on July 2, 1931 in Kahnawake to the late Peter and Mary (Lahache) Lazare. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, worked as an iron worker at the local 711 for over 25 years and was a proud volunteer of the Kahnawake Fire Brigade. Wallace was also a founding conservation officer in Kahnawake. Wallace married to Hazel Lazare (Bordeau) on September 1, 1951, where the two were blessed with eight children together. They were the owners of the poolroom which later was converted into a funeral parlor. He is survived by seven of his children: Sheila (Chester), Johnny (Loanne), Peter (Michelle), Late Wally (Gail), Sharon (Mouchie), Watio (Melissa), Shelley (Calvin), Tommy (Kathy) and his 32 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. As well, his son/best friend Dwaine White and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Hazel and his son Wally. The family of Wallace would like to thank the entire staff at the Kateri Memorial Hospital as well as the Kahnawake Fire Brigade for all the help and support. Calling hours will be held at Poissant & Deer funeral home on Old Malone Highway, at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 until Friday, November 24, 2017, with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. and burial will follow at Lazare Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the memory of Wallace Lazare to the Kahnawake Fire Brigade and/or Kateri Memorial Hospital.
