Andrew Georgas Obituary
LORAIN - Andrew Georgas, age 51, of Lorain, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at The Cleveland Clinic following a brief illness.
Andrew was born January 31, 1961 in Lorain, Ohio to George and Koula (nee Kiousis) Georgas. He graduated from Admiral King High School in 1979. He attended The University of Akron and Lorain County Community College. He was an avid football player in high school and in college.
For over 23 years, he was the passionate owner of The Original Garden Basket in Elyria. Prior to that, he was a real estate agent in Lorain County for several years.
Andrew was a life-long member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Lorain, where he had served on the parish council.
He enjoyed coaching football and also had coached the church's youth basketball teams. He will always be remembered by his friends and family as a devoted husband, loving father and a dear friend to many. He will truly be missed by all those whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Elaine (nee Marusin); his son Peter Georgas at home; his parents George and Koula Georgas, of Lorain; his sisters Connie (Albert) Matlin, of Oberlin and Anastasia "Stacy" (Marcus) Acord, of Wake Forest, NC; his mother-in-law Lottie (Dalbert) Gurnack, of Lorain; his father-in-law Anthony Marusin, of Lorain; his sister-in-laws Beverly (Richard) Alaksa and Diane Cline; his brother-in-law Jim (Emmy) Marusin; and many nieces and nephews.
The Georgas family will receive friends Monday, September 17, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst, where a Trisayion service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Blvd, Lorain. Rev. Michael Gulgas, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

I've known Andy for years I was his ad rep with the Morning Journal, then his customer and his friend. Always a straight shooter and a great sense of humor. I'm sorry I missed your funeral. I would love to have paid tribute to a great man. Gone too soon and too young. Bless your family and I hope they deal with your loss quickly and without too much pain. The people who knew you and the great things you did will always remember you. You gave me so many deals on plants and the care and upkeep of them was always valued. It's really troublesome when people leave so early. I hope your passing was swift and painless. Rest in peace Andy! You will be missed.

So sad and shocked to hear of Mr. Georgas' passing. Ever since our 18 year old son was little, we would go to The Garden Basket for find the biggest and tallest tree. Andy's dad helped us for many years and then the last several, Andy would help us. He always remembered us when we came. Our condolences to his wife, son, parents and family. Looking for a tree this year will be a little sadder....
