Donald Horne Obituary

AMHERST – Donald Edgar Horne, 90 years of age and a resident of Amherst passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016, at the Ohio Veteran's Home in Sandusky.
Don was born February 8, 1926, in Uniontown, PA and raised in PA before entering the army. He lived for over 50 years in Lorain before moving to Amherst in 2010.
Don had been employed in the security department of Burns/Wackenhut Security retiring after 8 years with the company. Prior to his retirement he had been employed by US Steel and Airco Oxygen Reduction Plant. He proudly served his country during WW II in the US Army Transportation Corp. as an infantryman and platoon sergeant in the European Theater transporting troops via the English Channel. He served in the South Pacific by participating in the liberation of the Philippine Islands. He re enlisted as a seaman in the Merchant Marines. He loved Lebron James and was thrilled to be able to witness the NBA Championship of the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier this year.
Survivors include his son Michael Horne of Amherst and his sister Deloris Bellino of FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Mary Virginia Horne (nee Gibson).
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions can be made in Donald's honor to the Ohio Veterans Home, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
