Mary Pifer Obituary
Mary Bridgette Ann (Carroll) Pifer, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2012, at Prestige Centre surrounded by family. Mary was born on October 22, 1926 in Mt. Pleasant to William and Sabina (Kane) Carroll. She married Harold (Pat) Pifer on September 3, 1943, who preceded her in death on December 19, 1995.
Mary attended school in Mt. Pleasant and earned her GED in 2000 at the age of 74. She was a farm wife and worked at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility in the PT Department for 26 years. After retirement she worked at Morey School and the Shepherd Public School cafeteria. Mary loved her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She so enjoyed attending their sporting events, school and hunting activities. She was the best Mom, mother-in-law, grandma and great grandma ever, and was "famous" for her homemade apple, cherry, and coconut cream pies.
Mary is survived by her children, Pat (Carol) Pifer of Remus, Jean (Tim) Coughlin, Jim (Gail) Pifer, both of Shepherd; grandchildren, George, Jr. (Kristi) Pifer of Mt. Pleasant, Trixie (Steve) Onsott of Mt. Pleasant, Nick (Jamie) Pifer of Blanchard, Jared (Angie) Pifer of Mt. Pleasant, Cody Pifer and Keegan Pifer, both of Shepherd; great grandchildren, Seth, Riley, Wesley, Ty Pifer, Bradley, Travis and Cooper Onstott, Ashlynd, Kylie, Katelyn Pifer, Brady and Luke Pifer; two former daughter-in-laws, Linda Pifer of Rosebush and Kathy (Bob) Guarisco of Mt. Pleasant; sister-in-law, Phyllis Carroll of Shepherd; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Misty.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, George; granddaughter, Jamie Pifer; and siblings, Charlotte Salisbury, Mary Ellen Olds, Erma Rick, Rose Carroll, Bill Carroll, and Michael Carroll.
Services for Mary will be held Monday, October 1, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Berry Funeral Home of Shepherd, with Tom Shepard, officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, September 30, 2012 from 2 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Prestige Centre or Woodland Hospice. Burial will be in Lincoln Twp. Cemetery.

I sure do miss this little lady. We had many good times together during the three years I spent Sundays with her. Mary was a good friend.

It was my pleasure to spend Sundays with Mary for three years before she moved from her home. We had a lot of fun together. It was very evident how lovingly people felt toward Mary. Whenever we were out, she always got a hug and a kind word from someone who knew her. I'm sure she will be missed by many people, including myself.
RIP Mary. My sympathy to her family.

my thoughts to the Pifer family. I remember Mary from all the years of coaching her grandsons in Baseball. I dont think she missed a game. a very sweet lady and a loss to the whole community. RIP Mary.

Mary was one of the sweetest ladies I ever knew. She was an awesome baker, as I was lucky enough to have some of her coconut creme pies. Savor the memories and God Bless all.

What a delightful lady Mary was. I met and worked with her at the Shepherd Cafeteria. She was so kind to show me the ropes. I will miss Mary, just knowing she is gone. She was so kind to me.
I know you have many wonderful memories of Mary. She loved her family so very much, that was evident.

"Lil Mary" was a true blessing to us at the Shepherd Food Service. All the kids did what ever "grandma" wanted and all she ever wanted from them was to enjoy their lunch and a hug now and then. She will be deeply missed and so will the coconut cream pies!!
