Phillip Hancock Obituary

Phillip Adrian Hancock, 65, of Midland, Texas passed away peacefully on October 5, 2018 in the presence of his family at Midland Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Nalley- Pickle & Welch Chapel. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Baker, Chris Schmalz, Bill Hancock, Clay Garner, Dustin Smith, Jim Merrill, and Tim Lodle. Phillip was born on August 18, 1953 in Denver, Colorado to Andrew (Andy) and Lavon (Conaway) Hancock. Phil grew up involved with horses, training and competing in all Western events and winning at the Appaloosa World Championship. In addition, he graduated from farrier school, shoeing all types of horses including Tennessee Walking Horses. He studied at Texas Tech University and later went into the oil & gas business as a petroleum landman with his family in Hancock & Associates. Phillip coached all sporting events in which his children were involved and dedicated countless hours to most of those associations, specifically serving as president of the Western Little League Baseball in 1989, North Central Little League from 1992-1994 and Lee High School Volleyball Booster Club in 2005-2006. He also enjoyed coaching an adult women's softball team that won a world championship in 1997. Family was everything to Phillip, and he was affectionately called "Grumpy" by his grandchildren, although "Uncle Phil" and "Coach Phil" were other names that he was commonly referred as. He was very excited and impatiently awaiting the births of two new grandsons, Colin and Ryder. These last few years, Phil has pursued his passion for horses, longhorns, and building the 4W Saltbrush Estate with Tonya for their children and grandchildren to all enjoy together. Phil is preceded in death by his parents, Lavon and Andrew Hancock, infant brother, Michael Hancock, nephew, Seth Hancock and great-nephew, Grey Garner. Phil is survived by his wife, Tonya, four children and their families: son, Nathan Hancock and his wife, Crystal, with expectant grandson, Colin, of Midland; son, Casey Hancock of Midland; daughter, Jessica Lundquist and her husband Bryan and grandchildren Harper and Owen, of San Antonio; and daughter, Ashley Marburger and her husband, Clint, and granddaughters, Jaden and Jordan with expectant grandson, Ryder, of Midland. He is also survived by a great uncle, Curtis Hancock, of Phoenix, siblings Gerald A. (Jerry) Hancock and his wife, Melinda, of Midland, and Linda Schmalz and her husband, Chris, of Fort Worth; nieces and nephews include Andrew (Andy) Hancock, III and wife, Maria, Sean Hancock, Blake Anderson, Clay Garner and wife, Robin, Kesha Smith and husband, Dustin, Calvin Schmalz and wife, Deidre, Kade Schmalz and wife, Leah; great nieces and nephews include Madeleine, Audrey, Stella, Ketta, Keelan, River, Lakyn, June, and Teague; several cousins and many good friends. The family requests memorials to be directed to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
