Gopalakrishna Gollapudi Obituary

Gopalakrishna Gollapudi, M.D. The family of Dr. Gopalakrishna Murthy Gollapudi is saddened by the death on February 2nd, 2010 of their husband, father, grandfather, brother, and great friend. He lived a full and eventful life as a Doctor of Endocrinology, researcher, mentor and caregiver to so many inside and outside his family. Murthy was born in Repalle, India in 1939 to Vijayaramaiah and Anasuya Gollapudi. He graduated from Guntur Medical College in 1962 with highest honors. In 1987, they opened the Diabetes Center of the Southwest, a comprehensive facility to treat endocrine disorders. Murthy served the community through his practice for the next 22 years, closing in 2009. Over that time, Murthy also served at different times as Chief of Staff for the area hospitals and dedicated part of his practice to the research and advancement of Endocrinology. In his almost 50 years of practicing medicine, he served tens of thousands of patients in New York and Texas. Murthy was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and brother. I first met Dr Murthy in 1973 at VA Hospital, Northport NY. I was a resident in Internal Medicine and he was one of the professors. We became friends as I am also a graduate of Guntur Medical College (GMC) Whenever he visited Chicago he used to talk to me. I visited hin in Ling Island NY several times in 1973. He was one of the most distinguished alumni of GMC and was a highly respected professor at VA Hospital and Stoneybrook NY. He used to be in touch when he moved to Texas and visited Chicago several times. His life was a very valuable life.

"WE BELIEVE THAT ONLY GOD CAN HEAL. BUT, SOMETIMES HE USES HUMAN BEING AS INSTRUMENTS OF HEALING"

Dr. G. was one of the greatest man I’ve ever none. In many ways I believe I owe him my life. He was my doctor for 31 years and 3 months. 30 years ago when so many Doctors believed I would not live to be 18, Dr. G treated and encourage me. He was the first person, other than my family, that made me believe that I had worth. I will miss him! My Doctor , My friend, and my inspiration. "A GIFT FROM GOD"

Dr. G was my dr. for 15 years. I missed him when he retired, and was saddened to hear he passed away. He was so kind, comforting, and wise and never lost the human compassion towards his patients. I lost my father two days before, and I understand what you are feeling. Just know my thoughts are with you.

Sesha, Anu,Usha and Vijay - your father will be deeply missed. He was a mentor to me in becoming not only a better person, but a better nurse. I, along with Mary Harris, LVN assisted him in setting up his practice in Odessa & Midland when he returned to the area. I first became to know him & work with him when he was in practice with Dr. Naidu in Odessa. We developed a cherished friendship & professional relationship from the very beginning. I admired him not only as a superb physician, but a great humanitarian. He was probably one of the smartest people on earth & I was so fortunate to work under his direction, have him as my physician, & know him as a friend. I learned so much from him and only wish I would have had more opportunities to tell him what respect I had for him. It is truely a sad day for all that knew him, & he will be sorely missed.
My thoughts & prayers are with each of you during this very difficult time. With Deepest Sympathy for your loss - Respectfully - Penny Farris, R.N.

My thoughts and prayers with Sesha, Anu,Usha and Vijay. Dr.Gollapudi was a remarkable humanbeing and I am so lucky to be their family FRIEND. He has lead a wonderful life and I have great admiration for his clinical accumen. He is a teacher to the teachers. He possess everlasting impression when you meet him once with his simplicitic approach to a complicated problem. His great two words in the end was " Take home points" He was not only accomplished person in the field of medicine but also the human philosophy and religion.I remeber him when he visited the temple how he used to present and conclude in very concised and meaningful manner.
I hoped to spend more time in his company and friendship but I am saddned that I do not have this oppertunity any more, but he is always in my thoughts all the time.
My family greatly miss him specially the beautiful smile, family get together, and his intellectual discussions.
I pray God to give strength and peace to the bereaved family during this time of the sorrow.
