Mary Shivers Obituary
Homosassa, FL. - Mary Delores Shivers of Homosassa, Florida was called to her Heavenly Father's home on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the age of 99. Mary was born to the late Benjamin and Mattie Greene, October 2, 1918, in Jersey City, New Jersey. She was a long time resident of Plainfield, New Jersey and Piscataway, New Jersey. She relocated to Clearwater, Florida and then to Homosassa, Florida.
On June 1, 1941, Mary Delores Greene united in Holy Matrimony to Eddie Lee Shivers at Christ the King Church, Jersey City, New Jersey. To this union, one son, Edward Richard Shivers and one daughter, Patricia Louise Shivers was born.
Mary worked at the Raritan Arsenal, Raritan, New Jersey as a clerk and for the Plainfield Board of Education, Plainfield, New Jersey as a secretary/aide.
She proved to be a woman of faith, dignity and was loved by all who knew her. Mary was a devout Catholic who loved her family, a wise woman who was an avid reader, a sophisticated and fashionable dresser. She also loved to travel. Her hobbies were sewing, embroidery, ceramic and painting. She will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Lee Shivers and her parents, Benjamin and Mattie Greene.
Mary is survived by her children, Edward Richard Shivers of Clearwater, Florida and Patricia Louise Williams (Addison) of Homosassa, Florida; her grandsons Adam Lee Williams of Homosassa, Florida, Donald Edward Williams of Phoenix, Arizona and Robert Addison Williams of Plainfield, New Jersey; her great grandchildren Aisha Williams and Abdul-Ghaffar Williams of Martinsburg, West Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and special friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018 at 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung NJ 07069. Followed by a 12:00 PM Mass of the resurrection at St. Mary's RC Church, Plainfield, NJ. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains, NJ.
