Dorothy E. Schroeder

AGE: 78 • West Long Branch

Dorothy E. "Dottie" Schroeder, 78 and life time New Jersey resident passed away on December 21, 2016 after a short illness surrounded by her loving family. Born in Newark in 1938, she graduated from Jonathan Dayton Regional High School in Springfield in 1955. She was employed by The Prudential Insurance Company for seven years before she left to become a full-time mother and homemaker. She was later employed by The Long Branch Board of Education, where she held several positions including: Secretary at Broadway School, Long Branch High School Career Resource Center, and main office Secretary, as well as in the Board office itself as Transportation Coordinator, retiring in 1999 after 29 years of service.

Dottie was a beloved mother and grandmother. She loved gardening, gardenias, and her grandchildren. She was the consummate "baseball mom"; and always supportive of her children's goals and pursuits tirelessly lending support where she could. She loved listening to a variety of music but especially enjoyed the works of Frank Sinatra, Barry Manilow and The Bee Gees.

She was predeceased by her mother Marie D. Summerer (nee Schwarz) and a son, Ronald C. Schroeder. She is survived by her daughter Marilynn M. Schroeder, her son Kenneth D. Schroeder, Jr, both of West Long Branch, and her son Dr. David W. Schroeder Sr. and daughter-in-law, Belinda Meadows Schroeder of Franklin, Tennessee. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Michael S. Rubens, David W. Schroeder Jr., Blake S. Schroeder and Madison M. Hughes, and a sister, Kathi Naia of Barnegat.

A memorial service will be held at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave.in Long Branch on Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 2 pm until the time of the service at 4 pm, where family and friends may gather to celebrate her life.
