Roberta Clark Obituary

Roberta L. Clark

AGE: 90 • Little Silver

Roberta L. Clark, 90, of Little Silver, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, in Red Bank. Roberta was born in St. Louis, MO to Herbert and Mae Lewis. Roberta was a talented commercial portrait artist. She was also an author and illustrator. The first art book Roberta wrote and illustrated, How to Paint Living Portraits, was published in 1990 by North Light Books, and her second, Painting Vibrant Children's Portraits, was released in July of 1993. Both books are still in print, have been well received and have proven to be valuable additions to the literature on how to proceed in this challenging occupation. This second book on painting children was published in a French edition in 1995 and it is titled Portraits D' Enfants. In total, Roberta published 15 books. She also developed two teaching videotapes on the subject of how to paint living portraits in various mediums. In 1998, she was invited to be one of 11 watercolor painters chosen to teach in The Artist's Magazine's First Watercolor Magic Workshop in Monterey, CA, at a seminar attended by over 300 students. She is a signature member of The American Watercolor Society, as well as The Garden State, Midwest, NJ, and PA Watercolor Societies, the Rockport Art Association and the Guild of Creative Art. Among the honors in Roberta's long career was inclusion in Who's Who in American Art and Who's Who in American Women.

Roberta was predeceased by her first husband, Raymond Fittinger, and her second husband, John Clark. She is survived by her twin sons, Dean Fittinger of North Carolina and Douglas Fittinger of Little Silver, and her grandchildren, Dawn Jordan, Raymond Wittek, Angela Terranova and Judi Clark.

All arrangements are private. The Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank, is entrusted with the arrangements. To send condolences to the family, please visit their website at www.thompsonmemorial.net.

My memories of Roberta are rich with the beautiful spirit of this powerful lady. I am saddened to hear of her death, but know she precedes us into eternity. A glorious artist who has brought inspiration to so many artists.
Love you, Roberta, from me.

Roberta graced the art world of New Jersey with her paintings and publications, and I was happy to have known her. Whenever an accomplished artist passes, I hope her spirit infuses the universe with her insight, her gift, and her determination so that all the artists who survive her may access her pure force. Even in death I believe artists must honor each other. My sincere condolences to all who loved and appreciated Roberta.
