Penny Reeder Obituary
Mrs. Reeder was born in Conway, a daughter of Mrs. Zelda Gail Martin Beam and Isaac Stanley Lewis. She was the president and organizer of L.U.V. (Lowcountry Understanding Volunteers) for Battered and Needy Children & Women in Surfside. She was the owner/operator of Penny's Barber Shop in North Myrtle Beach.
Surviving are a daughter, SaVanah Reeder of Surfside; mother and stepfather, Gail and Mike Beam of Darlington; father and stepmother, Stanley and Juanita Lewis of Conway; three brothers, Lee (Missy) Lewis of Aynor, Randall Lewis of Darlington, Jeff Lewis of Clover; two half-brothers, Brian Lewis of Aynor, Jody (Emily) Lewis of Conway; and maternal grandmother, Exa Martin of Darlington.
Funeral services will be graveside at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006 at the Florence Memorial Gardens Cemetery, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Sadly, I only found out about Penny's passing a few weeks ago Aug. 2009.
Penny and I stumbled and tripped over each other from South Florence High School in the early 1980's, with mutual freinds in the late 1980.s, and the 1990's in Murrells Inlet. Regardless of how long it had been since we had seen each other, it was as though it were yesterday. I had wondered why I hadn't run into her lately. I last saw her in Nov 2005 at the MI oyster roast, as she bounced from person to person making them laugh.
It is with a lump in my throat that I have to say both Happy Birthday and good bye to my friend. I was fortunate to have laughed with and loved her.
SaVanna,your mom was beautiful, caring and funny. The one word that describes her, she was just cool.

I had not seen nor spoke to Penny in many years, however I have thought of her often. I have a lot of fond memories of her when I was a child. She's what I call a 'feel good person'. People just naturally wanted to be around her. She would light up a room just by entering it. It's such a loss that she can't go on to touch other people's lives here on earth.
To Penny's daughter, Savanah: This is a terrible loss for you at such a young age. But you are Penny's daughter so I'm sure you are a strong young lady (just like your Mom). Always remember that your beautiful Mom is in Heaven watching over you and she will guide you in all life's big decisions. Talk to her daily- she is listening.
To Penny's family: Please start a journal for Savanah. Write down all the memories you have of Penny. Savanah needs to know all there is about her Mom. Let her know of stories of Penny growing up, how Penny met Savanah's Dad, life's hardships that Penny overcame, stories of Penny while she was pregnant, her favorite songs or foods, her hobbies, her dislikes, anything you can think of. The smallest memory from you now will be the largest piece of the puzzle for Savanah in the future. Savanah can't make any more memories. Share yours with her.

It has been a year today.I still have a hard time accepting that Penny is gone.I came back from New York today, a place that Penny and I had the best time and as I went through the city I remembered every little detail about our trip. Penny has been on my heart so much this week. This was her favorite time of the year. We used to love to take SaVanah to the pool after work. I just envied seeing her perfect body in a bikini...Penny was one of the most beautiful women I have ever met. Dear Penny's Family;
It was with heartfelt sadness,just today, that I learned of Penny's untimely passing. I'll never forget Penny's beautiful smile, laugh and the dedication to her darling daughter. She brought so much to the unfortunate children in the area with her concern and support thru the L.U.V. program. Her kindness and unselfishness will be truly missed by all in the community that knew her. Good morning "sunshine" ! I miss being able to talk to you on the phone or come by the shop to gab a bit. You have so many people here who miss you but I guess you can sense that. My family already misses Penny's smile, laughter and free spirit. I won't ever forget when my son Christian drove his John Deer Gator down to Penny's house to pick up SaVannah for school. She came running out of the house, threw her book bag in the back and climbed in. Off to Belin Church they went with Penny and I following behind laughing and admiring their young friendship. Penny lives on through SaVannah's smile! May God bless her family and friends and may we appreciate all that God brings into our lives.

To Stanley, Juanita and family, you have my heartfelt sympathy, in the loss of Penny. I did not know her, but from what I have heard she was a good person and you will miss her greatly.They say time heals wounds and I suppose it does to a point, but I think you just learn to live with it.

I remember Penny when we went to Pee Dee Elementary and she was always happy and always had a smile on her face. She loved Savanah very much. I would see her in the summer with Savanah & Monte on the river and they always seemed so happy. She had the prettiest dimples when she smiled. She will be sadly missed. I am so sorry for your loss-I got to know Penny through Belin Family Life Center. My little boy (Hunter) was in Savana's class.We always saw each other out and about and at birthday parties and other functions. Penny was indeed a special person - always wearing a smile and laughing.she could make anybody smile. she will be missed by many people. Her family and her friends! I think her biggest smile was when she was with or talking about savannah. the love of her life. i have known her for about 20 years or so. she was always the same. Same "ole girl" from beginning to end. A happy person.That is the best way to remember her- think of her laughter and her bright smile.

Though I have never met Penny I know of her through her brother Jeff. I know how close they were and how much he cared for her. It was always nice to see his face light up when he talked about Penny. You could see how much he loved her.

II still feel like this is a bad dream. I have lost a very good friend who gave so much to others. I lived with Penny and SaVanna for four months while I was looking for a house. We were together day and night when we didn't work . I worked with her on LUV as the secretary. She had a passion for children who were abused or without lifes "treats". She dedicated her life to collect monies for that organization and was relentless in getting the job done without any praise for herself. I know that we will carry on LUV in her memory.
Most important,she loved her daughter and life very much. It was more important for her to crawl up in the bed or on the sofa with SaVanna than to have a perfect house and that I am grateful for. She was constantly teaching her when school was over.
I loved her like a sister and will deeply miss her vibrant personality,her laugh,her face and being able to pick up the phone and call her.
Having lost a husband and a son I know the emptiness her family and friends feel. You will not be able to look at tomorrow without her if you don't lean on God for your strength. " Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding". I love you girl!
