Not sure what to say?

Our family and Fran's family (Kaiser) first got to
know each other in Germany. My father and her father were school friends and later in Berlin in the 30's our families saw each other regularly until our lives were rendered asunder when the Nazis came into power. We resumed our acquaintance-ship with Fran in 1940 in Shady, NY when she was 12 and I was 9. Later we were closely associated in Chicago until Fran and most of her family moved to Adrian. We continued to stay in touch. And I ...

Fran was an incredible teacher, who helped open my eyes to the world of literature and ideas back in the early 1980s when I was still very much trying to find my way. And then she became far more, a mentor, a source of support, and a friend. Along the way, I got to know Howard, who in his inimitable way made the world a more interesting place. I'll remember long conversations around their dining room table and in the garden, Fran's watercolors, the English Sheep Dogs playing havoc with my...

Mrs Knorr was a wonderful teacher - she made me want to be a warrior poet.

I wrote this piece about Fran at a political site where I'm the editor. Fran was everything to me.

Fran Knott was an extraordinary teacher and mentor to young people. I was in her Intellectual History and AP English classes, which were interesting, but not nearly as memorable as being part of her spring musical productions, for that is where she really came to life. I remember her especially for her availability and accessibility. She was a friend and second mother to so many the outcasts, the kids who were troubled or isolated. Her door was always open and there was always a line. I...

Mrs. Knorr was a great teacher and helped me become a better writer. I remember getting so many red marks on my papers when I first started her class! Over time, the red marks became fewer and fewer.

I have used my writing skills throughout my career. When I worked for the National Wildlife Federation, I used my writing skills to create action alerts to engage members on conservation issues, write letters to the editor, etc.

In my current role, I have helped hundreds of college...

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. May your family be surrounded by much love and comfort.

Fran Knorr was one of my top 5 teachers in my 4 years at Lahser. She challenged you to do better, because she knew you could. I am so appreciative of her desire to coach us as students to not just learn her subject matter, but incorporate what we were learning from other classes. Her inclusion of cultural and social references as we wrote our way through historical time periods was a great learning tool. Several of us former students are praising her skills, and the imprint she left upon us,...

Fran was my English, Social Studies and Intellectual History teacher at Lahser high school, and from that time forward we were friends for many years. She and Howard hosted me in their home many times, and I had the privilege of working with her on three musicals at Lahser. To say she was an inspiration would be to say to little. She brought out the best in me. If I am able to write well at all, it is because of Fran. May she live in blessed memory.
