Robert Bruce Johnson, 85, peacefully passed away on August 12, 2018. He
was born in Hope, North Dakota on September 10, 1932 to parents Jalmer and
Elsie Johnson. After graduating from high school, Bob joined the Air Force
and served his country in the Korean War. During this time of service, he
met and married Ora Elizabeth Rose. After his discharge, Bob and Ora moved
to Fargo, North Dakota where they raised their five children. After their
divorce, he spent many years with Geraldine Granfor and her daughter
Stacy.
Bob loved playing cards and became a professional poker player, traveling
to many different states in the country which allowed him to legally play,
perhaps even a few that didn t. All the while, he had a cigar in one hand
and a golf club in the other. Behind his poker face was a kind heart. He
was always a man on the move with somewhere else to be, splitting his time
between Billings, Montana, Las Vegas, Nevada and Hope, North Dakota.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Jalmer Johnson and Elsie
(Lockwood) Johnson, his siblings: Phil, Les, Marge, Kathy, Shirley, Jan,
Ruth and Marilyn, and his first son, Bruce.
He is survived by his five children: Jeff Johnson, Brad Johnson (Carmen),
Paula Rose, Rob Johnson (Nancy) and Pamela Skjolsvik (Erik), nine
grandchildren, Stacy and Geraldine Granfor and his first wife, Ora
McCully.
A memorial service is being planned for early summer of 2019 in Hope,
North Dakota at the American Legion. In lieu of flowers, the family
suggests you go buy yourself a nice steak dinner and play a game of cards
with someone you love.
