Not sure what to say?

Danny, I am so sad to hear of the loss of your father. I extend my prayers to your family. When I was 19 years old and a new hire out of welding school we went to meet Mr. Hunley in the North yard during the construction of the aircraft carrier (Theodore Roosevelt). I remember being totally nervous when he begin to talk about the expectations he had in place for his new welders. Since I have always used his words of wisdom and encouragement in my shipyard career. As a result, for many years...

Mr. Hunley was one of the nicest leaders in the welder family at Newport News Shipyard that I ever met. He was tough and he was fair and all who knew him held him in the highest regard. He was an example that was positive and folks wanted to work for him and do their best. His memory will live on in the hearts of the welder family that had the pleasure to know this great man.

I first meant Walter Scott in 1967, He made a mepression on me at that tlme that is still with me to this day. I still think of him every often (daily) He was and still is the best in my heart.

Yesterday, we said, goodbye for this realm to another of our adopted parents. He was a mentor, friend, father, a man of deep and abiding faith and great love. Thank you, Scotty - and Fleta - for adopting us fresh from divinity school and granting us grace and wisdom and the very real gift of family during our time with Westville Christian Church in Mathews County. Your selfless love helped set the foundations for Vinsons ministry in two pastorates, 25 years of Navy chaplaincy, and back to...

I first met Mr. Hunley when I was a non-destructive testing inspector, working for A. K. Weatherly on submarines in #3 drydock.
We became friends right away because we were both ex-military.

Not long after I met him, I was promoted to non-destructive testing instructor in the X-18 welding department, working for Mr. Hunley. I worked for him one year before I was promoted to X-18 Non-Destructive Testing Supervisor. I always wondered if he had something to do with my rapid...

Deepest sympathy to the Hunley Family. I was a young welding apprentice in 1987 aboard the Lincoln & your Dad walked up to me in the metal shack line, smiled, shook my hand, & gave me a little blue box containing a gold NNS Centennial coin which I kept & holding now as i remember back to that day. It's little things like that which will leave an everlasting impression of a wonderful man & leader. I've had the pleasure to work for you Danny ,& on to HRSD where i shared Leadership classes...

I worked with Mr. Hunley when I came into the yard some 38 years ago, until he retired. He was one of the most ethical, moral, and amazing men I have ever known. He touched so many people at NNS, from the Foremen he supervised, to the deck plate workers, everyone was treated with kindness and a smile. My condolences to the Hunley family, thank you for sharing Walter Scott with us.

Dear Danny, you and your family have my deepest sympathy on the loss of your father, who I admired when I worked in the Shipyard. I am proud to say that you were definitely just as great as he was. The apple does not fall to far from the tree.

To the entire Hunley family, and Danny in particular, I'm sorry to hear the sad news about your Dad's passing. I have fond memories of visiting with you in the early 70's and your Dad teaching me how to shoot in your back yard, hearing entertaining stories around the dinner table, and simply hanging out in the summertime. Semper Fi honorable marine! May you rest in peace.
