Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel Obituary

CHAPMAN, Mr. A. Calvin-age 86 passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Gentiva Hospice. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2013 with 10:30 a.m. family hour at Greater Galilee Baptist Church 4418 Industrial Ave. Flint, MI 48505. Pastor Latrelle W. Holmes Sr. officiating. The final resting place for Mr. Chapman will be River Rest Cemetery. Calling hours are 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Serenity Funeral Chapel.

Mr. A. Calvin Chapman was born February 23, 1927 in Raymond, Mississippi, the son of John Chapman and Teressa Brown. Mr. Chapman came to Flint, Michigan in 1952 and began working for General Motors where he ultimately retired. He united in holy matrimony to Lucille Gordon and to this union five children were born. He was a good provider of his family and loved to take his family on ?love rides? by all the lakes. He enjoyed the sport of wrestling, fishing and watching the animal planet. He really liked spending time talking with his friends.

Mr. A. Calvin Chapman leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Gaynale Finney; sons, Oliver Eugene Chapman, Tommie Dale Chapman and Sylvester Chapman; grandchildren; Joshua Jones, Ebony Russell, Andrae Chapman, Anton Chapman, Tommie Chapman, Jr., Déandre Chapman, Takara Chapman, Danyelle Chapman, Enjula Bell, Keisha Cole, Tommilisa Chapman and Antwan Slaughter; a host of great-grandchildren; sisters, Shron Melton, Diana Brown and Irene Brooks; brothers, John Chatman, Walter Chatman, Clarence Chatman, Willie Chatman and Pink Chapman; brother-in-law, Lawrence Mitchell (101 years old); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends including the Avenue A Street families, Mr. Brush Rod and all of his friends ?under the tree on Selby.?

Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Lucille Chapman; father, John Chapman; mother, Teressa Brown; brother, Lawrence Chapman; father and mother-in-law, Wallace and Annie Bell Gordon; sister-in-law, Rose Mitchell and Betty Joe Hicks.

The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Latrelle W. Holmes, Sr., and the Greater Galilee Baptist Church family, Gentive Hospice and Serenity Funeral Chapel.
