TRAVERSE CITY — Aaron Reed Glassford died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at Bortz Health Care, surrounded by his family. Aaron was born Feb. 10, 1918, in Elmo, Mo., to Frederick and Lela (Carver) Glassford.
Aaron was a police officer, retiring after 25 years with the city of Detroit.
He lived in Traverse City since 1977, and after 56 years of marriage, his wife, Ruby, died in 1995. He had been her caregiver for 20 years.
Aaron enjoyed traveling, visiting the casinos, fishing and hunting Michigan's north country, gardening vegetables and flowers, and just working and relaxing by farming around his home.
Aaron is survived by his children, Betty (Donald) MacRae, Allen (Rosana) Glassford, Cheryl (John) Viers, Nancy (Robert) Mitcham and Doug Glassford. Aaron also leaves 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Aaron was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby; and two grandsons.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 23, from 2 to 8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 24, at 1 p.m., at the funeral home, with Dr. Homer Nye officiating. Burial will follow in Acme Township Cemetery.
