ABELARDO "A.G." RAMOS, 83, of Radium Spring entered eternal life Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at his home. He was born December 27, 1924 in Grandfalls, Texas to Alvaro and Adela Garcia Ramos. A.G., as he was fondly known to family and friends, served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II and was decorated with the Asiatic-Pacific Area, American Area Ribbons and the World War II Victory Medal. As a retired farmer, he spent most of his working life in the Animas area, and was a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Lilia Minjarez Ramos of the family home; a daughter, Martha Ramos Alvarez and husband, Jaime of Sierra Vista, Arizona; two sons, David A. Ramos and wife, Lupe Natividad of Lordsburg, and Alfred Ramos of Radium Springs; three grandsons, Jaime Alvarez and fiancé Amanda, Eric Alvarez and wife, Laura and Dominic Alvarez; a great-grandson, Elijah Alvarez and a great-granddaughter, Jordyn Alvarez. Other survivors include his siblings, Alberto (Beto) Ramos and wife Emma, Celia Morales and husband Fernando, Cecilia Prelo and husband Mark, Ernie and Maria Elena Ramos and Ernestina King. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Alvaro Jr.
Visitation for Mr. Ramos will begin at 5 PM, Sunday, June 22, 2008 in Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church in Doña Ana, where the Prayer Vigil will begin at 6 PM.The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 9 AM, Monday, June 23, 2008 in the same church with the Reverend Miguel Macaya, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors accorded by a Naval Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League – El Perro Diablo Detachment.
Serving as casket bearers will be David and Alfred Ramos, Jaime and Jaime Alvarez, Jr. and Eric and Dominic Alvarez.
The Ramos Family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels, 300 E. Boutz Road, Las Cruces, to direct funeral services. 527-2222.
