Teahen Funeral Home - Cedar Rapids Obituary

Abigail (Abbi) Smith, age 18, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Friday, October 14, 2022 after persevering a 2 year journey with a brain tumor.  She is now truly at home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, October 21, 2022 at Teahen Funeral Home by Daniel Dietz.

Abbi was born on April 13, 2004 in Mt. Pleasant to Brian R. and LaVonne A. (Warner) Smith.  She leaves behind her parents; two sisters, Soleil Warner of Des Moines, Mariah Warner of Cedar Rapids; and one brother, Garrett Smith of Cedar Rapids.  Other survivors include grandparents, great-grandparents, nieces, nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Although her life was cut short, Abbi lived every bit of it to the fullest.  She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in May of 2022 as a Valedictorian and was a member of the National Honor Society, having achieved many honors and distinctions.  Abbi was involved in show choir and many sports including soccer, swimming, basketball, track and bowling.  She played the clarinet, too, but singing and dancing were her passion.  Abbi was a hard worker in and out of school. She held two part-time jobs: childcare at the Midwest Athletic Club and was a cashier at Fareway grocery store until shortly after her diagnosis.

Abbi was a shining light wherever she went!  She had a love for music, especially country, and worship.  Abbi absolutely adored her family.  She was a great encourager and had a way of making every person feel special. Abbi was very competitive and enjoyed games of all kinds. Ultimately, she will be remembered for her love of Jesus and of others, which radiated from her and was expressed in that amazing big smile everyone knew so well.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for an established memorial fund.

Not sure what to say?

Abbi watched over you all in her celebration of life and I’m sure she loved every but if it. Beautiful tribute and hope you all are able to cherish all your fond memories with her. Sending love.

We knew you had a lot of loved ones there, so we slipped out without a hug. Our heart is broken, and we are loving you from afar. Much love friend.

I pray all those great memories of Abbi provide you the peace you need until you see her again❤

I'm so sorry for your loss. I pray that God comforts you and that you experience his presence in a mighty way.

I only knew Abbi for a short time and we shared lunch together often in a small office when time allowed. She would always welcome me to join her "at her table" and then laugh about it. We had several fun conversations about the under classmen and how goofy they acted. She always had a smile on her face and would not let anything get her down. As I watched her go to prom and then graduate, she had so much joy on her face and I knew she was proud of reaching her goals. My thoughts are with...

I continue to be awestruck by Abbi's continued desire to be the best version of herself and her love of learning even as she fought for life! What a extraordinary young person and how fortunate I feel to have gotten to know her! Abbi was blessed with the perfect family and friends who helped guide her through this final phase on earth! May God Wrap his arms around you all in comfort and peace!

The last time I got to see Abbi was at our family reunion (the Smith side) and she looked as she always did ... radiant!! She even went outside to help entertain the younger kids. I'm so grateful that pictures of your trip to Florida was shared and it was so great to see that beautiful smile of hers. My heart aches for all that she, and your family, has gone through but, at the same time, happy that she no longer has to feel any pain. My love and prayers to all of you.

We are saying prayers for your family and keeping your sweet girl's kindness and grace in our hearts. Her smile will remain with us forever. With Love, The Walter Family
