I always wanted to be a published author so here it goes:
I, Abigail Rose Rochefort, age 36, passed away on October 9th, 2022 from metastatic triple negative breast cancer.
l was born on the south end of Bay City, Michigan on October 11, 1985. My parents are Paul and Margie (Moszyk) Goik. I was the baby of the family and took full advantage of the fact whenever I could.
I was fortunate enough to find my best friend and the love of my life, Nick Rochefort, in July of 2001 while watching the Bay City fireworks. Sparks lit up that night and we were inseparable ever since. We got married on July 6th, 2012 at St. Stanislaus Church in Bay City.
I loved being my husband’s number one fan; cheering him on in all of his marathons and races. I also enjoyed traveling – be it in the United States or in Europe; hosting exchange students; spreading cheer to whoever or wherever may need it at the time; walking with our dog, Max, at the Bad Axe walking path and spending time with my family and friends. I ran the office at MacAlpine Funeral Home for eight years and treated every family that they served like they were my own. I was also a proud member of the Bad Axe Rotary Club.
I am survived by my loving husband of 10 wonderful years, Nick Rochefort of Bad Axe; my parents, Paul and Margie Goik of Bay City; my siblings: Michael (Carla) Goik, Joel (Sandy) Goik and Amanda (Chris) Smutek, all from Bay City; my nephews and niece: Noah Goik, Jessica Goik, Clayton and Carter Smutek. I am also survived by my in-laws: Susan (Jerry) Rochefort-Peterson of Harbor Beach and Al (Susan) Rochefort of Bad Axe; my sister-in-law, Rachel (Jeff) Duncan of Grand Ledge, brother-in-law, Kevin Rochefort of Lansing; my aunts and uncles and many dearly loved cousins. Our exchange students will also greatly miss me: Vicky, Kim, Sonja, Franzi and Annika.
I was preceded in death by my grandparents: Chet and Helen Goik and Bernard & Julia Moszyk; my uncle, Paul Moszyk; and aunts, Barbara Moszyk and Mary Ann (Anthony) Bieszke.
I would like to give a special thank you to my care team: Mary Free Bed staff, 4 North nursing staff at Covenant Cooper, Heartland Hospice, Jo Ann Steinhoff, Jane Scherret, and McKenzie Stomack as well as my countless “Abby sitters”.
Visitation for Abby will be on Wednesday October 12, 2022 from 2-8 PM at MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe, and from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Funeral Service will be on Thursday October 13, 2022 at Sacred Heart/St. Hubert Parish in Bad Axe, with Fr. Bill Rutkowski and Fr. T.J. Fleming officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to B.C.U.P.S. Program at Marlette Area Hospital or the Thumb Animal Shelter

Dear Abby, I didn´t know you but I´m so glad you wrote your own obituary. Why I read it, I don´t know, I was drawn to it. Something broke loose in my heart and it feels so open and good. I thought today was just a another hum drum October day. Thank you for making me cry, you are a wonderful writer. Today is a beautiful day now, because of you!

To a great friend whose support and love was shown to us and our daughter as she made her Breast Cancer journey. All because of a pretzel. Your friendship is a treasure we will always have in our hearts.
Blessings and peace to her family
