Abner Oakes III

I worked with Abner over the years on various community events and in particular the naming of Gallagher Road ( a new road off Putnam ave) around 2010, named for a Vietnam era veteran. Abner was a a total gentleman to work with on that project and opened my eyes more than ever to the world of post service vet issues. We live in the house in Hanover that the Oakes family built back around 1960. We are the fourth owners. A few years after we bought it, Ab sent us the original plans for the house and a friendly note. We never met him, but it was a thoughtful gesture, apparently indicative of the kind of person he was. Our sympathies to his family. May his memory be a blessing.

I worked with Abner at York-Sessions Casket for about 3 years, 94-97. He was a good man , always joking around with us guys in the warehouse. I’d occasionally see him around town in Hamden after I left York-Sessions. He always had the time to say hello.

To the family of Ab,
How well I remember as a young boy,looking at a picture of Ab in his Darmouth hockey uniform.The picture was in my bedroom in Montreal West.
What I remember about Ab was his modestly and gentlemanly demeanor.
He was a man of many accomplishments, and will be sorely missed by all those that knew him.My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
