I was in Cincinnati and later in Miami when I read of the passing of Dr. Pinelo. I think I was one of his first students having started at the old campus in Covington.
Al was a great inspiration to me and many others. That first group of faculty members where all such a great group. Many of us attended the ground breaking years later in Highland Heights, very exciting times. Al, with such soft voiced lectures seamingling open doors to far off places and opened minds to accept a different...

I was very upset to hear about the death of my major professor, Dr. Pinelo. He was my mentor at NKU, and I was one of the few students in the first year (experimental year) of the new International Studies dept., in the very early 80's. A sincere and inspiring gentleman who worked tirelessly to help others grow and improve. Those contributions can never be fully measured but his influence continually improved our community and University . The principles and examples shared by Dr. Pinelo have, and will continue to be passed on to others through the lives and efforts of his students. Thank you Dr. Pinelo, well done good and faithful servant.

I am saddened to learn death of Dr. Pinelo. He taught me in political science at NKU in 1974-1978. I enjoyed his class of politics of Cuba and Latin America. Dr. Pinelo had his students over for a Cuban meal while I and never have forgotten the evening. One of the things I admired most about him was his story about coming to America from communist Cuba. I was fortunate to attend NKU in the early days when the professors knew all the students and became friends with them. He will be missed by...
