Not sure what to say?

Adam was a World II very close friend of my husband, Theron (Bill) Given. We always kept in touch with Adam all these years. As a matter if fact, I had an e-mail from Adam just before his passing. My husband, Bill, passed away in 2015. My thoughts and prayers are with all your family.

I just heard about Adam and am very sorry for your loss. I met him through Honor Flight and we continued to keep in touch.

I loved how he was not afraid of technology. I am very glad that I got to see him one last time at the benefit concert in Greece this summer.

My deepest condolences to the DeSantis family.

I met Adam several years ago and taught chess with him at a few different schools such as Victor, Washington Irving (a school in Gates that no longer exists) and Seton as well as at a couple of libraries. Even though I saw myself as relatively experienced, there was almost always something new to be learned from watching him teach and interact with students.

Adam was a fantastic teacher but was an even better friend. He was...

Our condolences to all of the DeSantis family at this difficult time. May happy memories help support you.

I am certain there are many kids that have grown up learning chess due to Adam's patience and I know they are better for having known him. Even though I don't play chess, I looked forward to seeing him in person or receiving emails about Honor Flight, chess games/players, and his WWII experience. He would talk with my husband about airplanes and always have a story to...

Adam was a great man who was so amazing ..I knew him as a visitor to sprinkles ice cream who became a good friend anytime you needed to smile or laugh or just wanted to learn some history or Whatch a very good chess player you could count on Adam ..he would bring his grandson to hit golf balls with me and loved talking about his family I'm very proud to have known Adam and wish I was able to attend his service .He will be missed but always in are hearts because to know Adam was to know he...

Adam was like a grandfather to me. Adam taught me how to play chess for the first time at the age of 8. He taught me how to think ahead so I can know what my apponent might do next. He also taught me that when others want to attack my king and queen I should always have a defense around me so I can fight back. Those words have helped me to become stronger in who I am now. Adam you have always been caring and kind to me and I will miss you dearly.

Adam was a tremendous friend to many, a long-time chess teacher and an incredibly active chess player. With his teaching and mentoring, he introduced literally thousands of young people in the Rochester area to the game of chess. Adam loved the game of chess and he loved sharing his love of the game. Over many years, Adam introduced and taught chess in many Rochester schools, libraries and essentially any place where a chess board could be set up. You might have found Adam teaching or...

"Grandpa Adam" was such a kind, generous, cheerful man. He was a real blessing to me and my children on Mondays when he taught them chess. Adam's selflessness and servanthood made him a true example of model citizen.

For the past year our 6 year old grandson James has played chess at the Chili library and we will greatly miss Adam. Adam was a wonderful and patient man.
