Adam Skelton Obituary

Adam J. Skelton 1983 - 2018
Chatham, IL—Adam J. Skelton, 34, of Chatham, died at 7:03 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at his home.
Adam was born April 4, 1983 in Springfield, the son of Dean and Joyce A. Gurnsey Skelton. He married Catherine VonDeBur on March 12, 2005 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Adam graduated from Lincoln High School, class of 2001. He worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield for 8 years. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was baptized there on his birthday. Adam loved traveling to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Florida, and was able to take his family to Disney this past summer. He loved his family, golf, baseball, fishing, Notre Dame football, and watching NASCAR.
Adam was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Joyce A. Skelton; maternal grandpa, Charles Gurnsey; paternal grandpa, Burt Skelton; and brother-in-law, Joey VonDeBur.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Marie Skelton; two sons, Graedy and Brantley Skelton; two daughters, Cadence and Hayden Skelton; one sister, Michelle (Jeff) Killion; sisters and brothers-in-law, Theresa (Ben) Walz, Melissa (Tony) Boston, Charles (Kristen Ribley) VonDeBur, and Rebecca (Matt) Wood; nieces and nephews, Austin, Brayden, and Camrynn Killion, Andrew Walz, Michael, CJ and Emma Boston, and Payton and Ella Wood; grandmothers; Delores Gurnsey and Marie Skelton; and parents-in-law, Colleen and Edward VonDeBur.
We lost a loving son, devoted and amazing husband and father, a goofy brother, a best friend, a coach, a loving uncle, and all around great man. Adam was so many things to a lot of people and, like him, his heart was large in stature. We know right now Adam is being greeted by his mom and dad and making inappropriate jokes with his brother Joey. Saying he will be missed is an absolute understatement. We love you AJ and always will.

My condolences to the family. Continue to rely on God and know that he hears prayers, Isaiah 59:1.

Brian and I were heartsick to learn of Adam's passing. We worked with Adam frequently over several years, and were always impressed by his intelligence, professionalism, perceptiveness, and compassion in complicated business situations. Adam always acted with common sense, integrity, warmth, and incredible humility, which is a great and rare trait for one who was so good at his work. Adam brushed aside compliments with a smile - it's my job. Our deepest sympathy to his beloved family and children, of whom he was so proud. Adam was a great guy who was taken far too soon.
