Not sure what to say?

I miss my neighbor and friend, Adelaide. My husband and sons and I were all so fond, admiring...and amused by her remarkable spirit. It was great fortune, a joy and a privilege to live next door to this special woman for 20 years.

Adelaide was a very intelligent, articulate, proud woman filled
with determination and perseverance. She contributed to her community as well as Smith College, Boston College and Yale.
She was a generous neighbor who loved telling stories of her family history over a glass of wine.

Tony, you were a faithful son negotiating her safety, comfort
and care to the end.

My thoughts are with both of you.
Karen Peterson

Dr. Cromwell was one of my favorite professors at Boston University. Her passion for her students and the African American Studies Department was evident. I enjoyed our conversations and seeing her several times over the years in Washington, DC and over the summers in Massachusetts. May she rest in everlasting peace with our Lord.

Dear Tony,
Adelaide was a grand lady in every way. She lived her beliefs through dedication and hard work to the end, leaving a huge body of scholarly work. Her amazing charm, great spirit and humor gained her many fans and admirers. I miss her.

Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years.
May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

Unique in every way & persona.
Joe Boskin

Tony and family, please accept my sincere condolence for your loss. May prayers to the God of all comfort strengthen you. He has promised to fortify you, to really help you, while holding on to you with his right hand of righteousness. May the promise of these words bring you much peace and comfort at this time.

Tony, I am so sorry to hear that Adelaide is gone. I spent many happy hours with her when we were both members of the Massachusetts Historical Commission. She was a sketch to be with as well as a fine scholar. I will miss her.

I will always be in awe of this grand lady, my cousin. She, and her immediate family, will remain as legendary figures in our lives. She must not be forgotten. ~ Mary Lightfoot
