I was so saddened to hear of Adele's passing. As Chief Justice of the 14th Court of Appeals, she represented the State of Texas with all the grace and dignity imaginable. I will always remember her as my friend and true scholar of the law. My sincere condolences to Dan and family.

Dear Mr. Hedges:
I am so very sorry for the loss of your wife. Michael and I live in your midrise and have enjoyed seeing you and Mrs. Hedges, and your beautiful Huskie. Although I did not have the opportunity to get to know Mrs. Hedges well as we just moved here in August, I always was happy to see her in the lobby, in the elevator and was immediately struck by her calm, pleasant, and elegant demeanor. We traded fun stories on our elevator rides together about our dogs - we have the big, black lab. I am even more impressed now that I know she was such an esteemed judge and had such an amazing, trailblazing career. Impressed with her accomplishments, yes; but, even more impressed with her down-to-earth warmth and kindness. Will miss her. Prayers and peace to you and your family.

Geraldine Adele (Oglesbee) Hedges was a very special person in my life. She was only six when I was born, but my mother gave her the privilege of naming me. She named me Mary, after her Aunt Mary whom she loved dearly and Adele, after herself.
She was like an older sister to me and I loved every minute I spent with her. As I grew older I was so proud of all the honors she received through high school, college, and as an adult.
I have so many sweet, wonderful memories of her and her mom and dad.
My thoughts and prayers will be with the family in the days and months to come.

Adele was a fascinating person, always curious about everything. Knowing her for four decades, I always enjoyed our encounters. I could learn so many new things. She brought a kindness and humility to judging, too. It can truly be said that she made a positive impact on the world. And, of course, she is and will continue to be sorely missed.

I consider myself blessed to have had the benefit of Judge Hedges' advice, friendship and guidance my first year out of law school serving as a briefing attorney on the First. Those days were the greatest of memories. Judge Hedges always carried herself with a dignity and easiness that are not easily matched in one person. As I grew in age and practice, whenever our paths crossed I could count on a hug and a smile. I will miss it terribly. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Dear Dan: I was shocked and saddened to hear of Adele's untimely death. She was a brilliant lawyer, an asset to the judiciary, a lovely woman, and a wonderful and decent person. Her contributions to our profession and to the jurisprudence of Texas will light the way for many years to come. I was proud to be her friend and grieve that she left us too soon. Please accept my sincere sympathy. May her soul rest in peace, and may light perpetual shine upon her. Chief Justice (Ret.) Marilyn Aboussie

I remember Judge Hedges well. As a fellow Orangeite, she reached out to me when I first moved to Houston, and we became friends. (She even taught me some jewelry-making.) She was a very smart, very kind person who was a fair and good judge. R.I.P.
