Adele Waeldner Obituary
FALMOUTH– Adele Irene Waeldner, 92, of Falmouth, formerly of Waverly, Pa., died on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born on Dec. 27, 1922 in Jersey City, N.J., one of three daughters of Vincent Gburczyk and Jadwiga Kowaleski Gburczyk. She attended local schools and graduated from Bloomfield (N.J.) High School before graduating with a B.A. in Education from Jersey City State Teachers College.
In 1944, she married William J. Waeldner, Jr. and together they had six children. Adele was busy raising her family, making a home for them, and at various times, teaching in Catholic elementary schools. She was an active member of her parish and taught religious education for many years. In her youth, Adele had an interest in archery, but this gave way to becoming an avid reader, walker and gardener. She had many interesting, personal stories that she enjoyed passing along to her family.
Adele will be remembered as a loving, caring and accepting woman who was deeply committed to her family and her faith. Adele's never ending kindness and relentless energy, no matter the situation, will inspire many for years to come.
Adele is survived by her husband of 70 years, William J. Waeldner, Jr. of Falmouth; her daughter Shoshana Israel of Northport, Wash., her son William J. Waeldner, III, of Waverly, Pa., her son Frederick Waeldner and his companion Michael Bobick of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Dalton, Pa., her daughter Maria Smith and her husband, Warren, of Natick, Mass., her son Robert Waeldner and his wife, Brigid, of Yarmouth; her grandchildren, Sarah, Kelly, Laura, Ellen, Katie, Luke, Matt and Roxann; her great-grandchildren, Liam, Emma, Molly and Jake. Adele was predeceased by her son, James Waeldner and his wife Liz; and Adele's two sisters, Virginia Burch and Bunnie Acton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church, 266 Foreside Road, Falmouth. A reception will follow at a location to be determined. Please visit

There are no words to explain the heartening sorrow for the loss of such an example of a Godly woman. I have learned so much from Adele. As much as my mother or grandmothers she has taught me the Christian way for a wife, mother, grandmother, friend. Her words were always gentle, kind and loving when showing me how she does things. Structure and discipline means nothing if not done by love. Everything she did was by love. I will remember her guiding voice. Her unique manner of telling a story was as fun to hear as was the story she was telling. I could listen to her and loose time so easily. I know Sweet Liam has an advocate in heaven and will be fine now. She was so pleased and proud to be his great grandmother. Her love and excitement for her family and family friends propelled her. How blessed I am to be part of her life.
