Not sure what to say?

Dear Children,

I just learned today of your Mother's death. I am profoundly sorry for your loss.

Your Mother was a good friend of mine in Greenland. I lived one block away from her, and for a short period of time, we took walks together. They were hours of my life well spent.

There are a few "walks and talks" that I will always cherish and honor. One was in November, when your Mom talked about the the stark and quiet beauty of the month. She talked about her love of...

I just today learned of Adele's death. I wanted to confirm her address for a new year's card and found her obituary.
We were graduate students at the UofC forty years ago: classes together, study groups for comprehensive exams, tennis, and a lot -- a lot - of hilarious laughter.
We hadn't met or spoken since, but kept up an occasional correspondence, exchanged wedding gifts -- I think about her whenever I use the teapot she gave us -- Christmas cards, and so on. It didn't seem...

Dear Douglas, Patrick, Charlie and Elizabeth,

Adele was my classmate at HB in Cleveland, and I had the joy of visiting with her at Cathy Eaton's house a few years ago. It was wonderful to reconnect with her then. I remember her being so kind, sweet and smart. She had such a bright and impish smile. She was one of the most intelligent and one of the nicest girls in our class, and I remember her fondly. I am so sorry you lost her so soon and send condolence to you and your family.

Adele was also one of my closest friends while we were at Tulane. I was just a new phd student, barely sure what I intended to do once I finished my studies. But Adele pressed me, do you want to teach graduate or undergraduate students, she asked me -- a question I had never thought about! At a time when there were very few other women (still of course too few) studying graduate level economics, Adele's friendship, confidence in my abilities, and encouragement helped me tremendously during...

Adele was my closest friend during our years at Tulane University. She provided emotional support and hours of time using her editing skills to help me finish my Ph.D. dissertation. She and I joked about writing novels as we worked together on our Ph.D. topics from two different universities. In 1986, Adele hosted my wedding in her beautiful New Orleans home; she was my matron of honor. It was such a special moment in time in the days before she left for New Hampshire. I will remember Adele...

Dear Doug, Patrick, Charlie and Elizabeth, Our deepest condolences to each of you and your families. Your mother was brilliant and kind to all who had the pleasure of meeting her. Her love and adoration for each of you was unmistakable and inspiring. May you each carry her love and lessons for always. Sincerely, Jay and Julie
