Angelus Funeral Home - San Antonio Obituary

After 89 years of kindness, generosity and compassion, Adelina Barrera passed away on October 27, 2018.

Adelina was a lifelong San Antonio resident, who raised her five children on the West Side with her husband, Mike F. Barrera.

She was always quick to offer a hot plate, a drink, somewhere to sleep or a word of careful advice.  Unfailingly polite, even as her memory faded from Alzheimer's, she was courteous to everyone who passed through her front door.

Born September 22, 1929, she attended Lanier High School and graduated with the class of 1949. She met her husband, Mike F. Barrera, at the swimming pool of Lady of the Lake College on a hot summer's day. They married in 1951.

Even as she raised her own five children, Adelina babysat neighborhood children.  Once her children were grown, took a strong hand in raising her grandchildren as well.  She was humble, modest, genuine, hardworking, feisty, sincere, and loving, and she will be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mike F Barrera; parents Alberto Villarreal and Maria Martinez Villarreal; and sisters Susie Chavez and Rafiela Gonzalez.

She is survived by sister Lupe Kramer and brother Albert Villarreal; children Mike Barrera Jr (Margie), Mary Lou (Frank) Guiterrez, Ralph Barrera, Rosalinda (Henry) Bosquez, and Richard (Joanne) Barrera; her grandchildren Nancy (David) Rodriguez, Marcy Pena, Melissa Barrera, Janette Acevedo, Mark Bosquez, Juliette Barrera, Jessika Barrera, Mike Barrera III; and great grandchildren Emma and Jacob Rodriguez.
