Adolfo C. Guerrero, born October 22, 1915 in Florence, Arizona passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family, on Mary 22, 2006. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind and gentle soul. A man of few words, he was admired for his reverence toward nature, his constant pursuit of knowledge, and his compassion and sensitivity toward the plight of the less fortunate. As the son of Mesa pioneers, and founders of Rosarita Foods and Guerrero Lindsey Sign Company, Adolfo pursued his love for the arts at an early age. After graduating from Mesa High School, Adolfo attended the Art Center of Los Angeles before returning to Mesa to assist his father in the family business. In 1938 he married Susan Contreras of Phoenix with whom he lived happily until her death in 1971. Like his father, Pedro W. Guerrero, Adolfo was an active participant in Mesa community affairs. He was a founding member of the Mesa Southwest Museum, a long time member of the Optimist Club and a charter member of the Mesa JayCees. He served on the Mesa Public Library Board and the Mesa Cultural Board. As a young man, Adolfo was a member of the Mesa Little Theater where he performed in and directed plays written and produced for the Mexican American community in Mesa. Adolfo had a passion for archeology and the study of the prehistoric history of the Americas. He loved spending time in the desert (especially during the hottest summer months). He also loved traveling to ancient ruins and pyramids around the world and spending time in his second home of Alamos, Mexico. He is survived by his two brothers, Pedro E. Guerrero and Fernando Guerrero, his sisters, Maria Teresa Jaimes and Herminia Stechnij; his five children, Sue Maria Stokes and her husband Terry, Mercedes Sanders and her husband Jerry; Rose Andrea Hogue, Teresa Guerrero and her husband Ray Telles and Mesa Artist Zarco Guerrero and his wife Carmen; his 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to Banner Hospice, 1325 North Fiesta Blvd., Suite 1, Gilbert, Arizona 85233. A graveside ceremony will be held at the Mesa Cemetery on Country Club Drive on Monday, March 27 at 2:00 p.m. Sign the Guest Book at eastvalleytribune.com
