A true American hero! Listen to his story on the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. I was his student in 1972-73 and never realized how much history was embodied in this man. Okinawa, Aurora 7 recovery and more. Yet such a kind and humble man. I was honored to be student of The Captain from 1969 to 1972. He will forever be remembered by me for his leadership and his friendship. He was modest about his WWII service but those planes his ship shot down saved the lives of many. The NJROTC at Wheeling High School was a success because of him.
