BACKA, Agnes D. – Of Grand Blanc, age 90, died Saturday, May 12, 2018 at McLaren-Flint. 


Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Father Steve Anderson officiating. 


Entombment at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. 


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. 


Visitation 4-6 p.m. Monday and 12-2 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.


Agnes was born in Ovid, Michigan on March 7, 1928, the daughter of the late John and Mary Novak. 


On August 29, 1953 she married Joseph Backa. 


She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, where she organized and prepared meals for funeral luncheons.   


She enjoyed crocheting, playing Bingo and going on trips to the casino. 


Mrs. Backa worked for AC Spark Plug Division, retiring in 1977. 


Surviving are daughter, Carolyn and husband Larry McQuigg; 


sister, Dorothy and husband Gerald Snyder;


many nieces, nephews and extended family members. 


A special thank you to McLaren Acute Care Unit for their compassionate and professional care. The family would also like to thank Woodhaven Senior Community for the great care you provided through your actions. It’s truly nice to know there are places to live, where people care so much and such great friends can be made. 


She was preceded in death by husband, Joseph Backa and many siblings.

Carolyn and Larry - So very sorry about Aunt Agnes. Have many fond memories of her and Uncle Joe. Friday I ordered the bench to be placed at Presque Isle Harbor in memory of my husband, Bob -- Wish this would've been approved sooner - as that is where your donation is going. Would have loved to

Carolyn and Larry, I was so sad when I heard about Agnes, she was a dear friend to me, my sister Nancy and I worked many funeral luncheons with her and she made me at least seven afghans, she was so nice and I will miss her but she always wanted to be with your father Joe, love and prayers, Mary
