Clear Lake - Agnes Irene Gilbert, 98, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, Iowa with the Rev. Rhoda Preston officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Ward-Van-Slyke Colonial Chapel. Interment will be in Concord Cemetery, Garner, Iowa.
Agnes was born June 30, 1914, in Thompson, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Inga (Havnen) Hestness. She graduated from Thompson High School in 1931.
She married Dean Alfred Gilbert Nov. 9, 1940, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Agnes worked at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for twenty years as a nurse's aide retiring in 1985. She enjoyed crocheting, baking and sports. She also volunteered at Opportunity Village and A.E.A. She was a member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church.
Agnes is survived by her four children, Joanne Gilbert Stebbins, Longwood, Fla.; Judy (Dr. Jim) Schrader, Glendale, Ariz.; Dr. Michael (Dr. Deirdre) Gilbert, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ron Gilbert, Ocala,Fla.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean in 1958; son Dennis in 2002; six brothers and four sisters.
